I went for a ride on this rig today. 62 foot 2010 Ritchie Howell with giant engines. She hit 44 knots. Total beast.

The boat's in San Jose del Cabo. It's maybe for sale and my fishing partner and I are maybe going to make an offer on it. We just went to Cabo for a day to see & run the boat. Lots of maybes, but if we do buy it we'll keep it in Chiapas, Mexico.

Not my boat(s) but I saw some impressive setups along the intercoastal waters south of Tampa a couple weeks ago.

Aim for the chopping block. If you aim for the wood, you will have nothing. Aim past the wood, aim through the wood.

Never mind. We decided it's too much boat for what we need.

It was fun looking it over, though. The builder, Ritchie Howell, is a friend, so he flew out to meet us in Cabo and look the boat over. He complained about all the "Yankee shit" that the original owner insisted on over Ritchie's objections.

Better to have reality strike now than a few million down the road. Is there a similar sailfish run in Chiapas as Guatemala has?

The short answer is yes - maybe even better - but it’s pretty unknown and we like it that way. My friend & I have had a boat there for over a decade, and 99% of the time we’ve been the only boat fishing. We don’t talk it up.

One of the Guatemala boats spent a few weeks there last summer chasing the record for a blue marlin on the fly. For some reason there were a lot of blue marlin around last summer, so they had a lot of shots at the record. They didn’t get it, but apparently one of the guests did some talking, and now this spring there are three large sportfishing boats in the marina. I have mixed feelings about that.

"over a decade" is a long time, but not long enough. Love sailfish on a fly - really fun.

Ice is out, so I put my pontoon boat in the water. Booze-cruzin, walleye fishing, this is the ideal boat in Northern Wisconsin.

I seem to recall Wisconsin seasons opened before Minnesota. Ice isn't even out on Lake Hubert yet. Might make it there for Memorial Day weekend. My dad is not doing well.

I think mine is going in Friday, I'm psyched. I don't have a trailer so it needs to get hauled and things can change with those guys but Friday is the plan right now.

Sorry to hear that. Every time I met him your Dad always struck me as a kind and generous soul.

Jealous! There’s way too much water on that boat for the company on board!

$225,000 minus rigging just hanging off the back. Where were you? Next time let me know. I will take you out in something MUCH slower and smaller.
