With the 150 it would do maybe 60 at full trim and didn't handle the chop that well. Great fishing rig even with the windshield and smaller casting decks. Only thing it lacked was that there were no full length rod vaults, you could use the ski locker in the bottom though. It had this goofy hatch on the front that hid the trolling motor. Seemed like a good idea until you actually have to use it. Extra few seconds became a pain in the ass when it was windy.

I remember a dude who built a wooden windshield onto his Skeeter because he got sick of the wind in his face.

The old ProCraft looked like this (cept this is a 20'er with prolly at 200 or 225):

I looked hard at the procraft. Nice lines but not near the ride or fishability of the Viper. Rod locker up front holds rods to 7'6". Nice fishing platform up front with plenty of room for a plethora of rods on the deck with ample room to fish. Big back deck with huge live well and storage. Seats 5, can squeeze six if smaller.
A small company bought the molds and are building them again. Only they changed the windshield a little and are doing sticker kits instead of metal flake gel coats which sucks.

Here's a working boat for you. Worked salmon and King Crab on her in 2006. Loved that boat.

I used to own a little tunnel hull boat, The guy I bought it from told me never to get off the throttle in a turn, Well the first time out I'm up on plane doing about 50 just getting the feel of the boat and make my first turn. I let off the throttle a little and the boat hooked and turned harder than anything I'd driven doing a fast 180 in an 8' diameter, It was a fun boat. A friend had a customer out on a sea trial one day in a 31'? Skater cat, he tried to turn at high speed in Jones Inlet when the bow hooked flipping it. The customer drown.
I worked for an Apache dealer in the 80's and the owner had a 54? Apache with a 10' beam, twin diesels and Arneson surface drives. We were watching the offshore races from the boat one year in 4' seas, rain and wind and the race boats could barely do 40. We got tired of getting wet and started heading in passing every boat in front of us doing well over 60. that thing was a beast. Lots of fun sea trials with new Apache's back then.

Yeah good choice, the PC would beat teh shit out of us. It was only an 18'er in her defense but, knowing what I know now, just looking at the viper I can see its got a better ride. Rod boxes fucking nice too.

Looks like your top snaps to the windshield. The old PC had that and I got pretty damn good at settign it up quick. Call me weak but when it was 40 degrees and drizzling and I was 20 minutes away from the fishing spot or trolling for hybrids, having that set up was $$$$. Like a little pilot house out of the wind.

I used to pass the Luther Little all the time in Wiscasset, ME and watched it (and the Hesper) slowly deteriorate, There were plans to save them but the ice won.

I'm a sucker for Downeast boats, here's a Wesmac 46, it's a badass ride. Many Downeast boats are still built for lobstering and commercial fishing but people get them yacht-finished for cruising and sportfishing too.

I worked salmon in CA and OR off this beauty in '88 & 89. 1929 double-ender; she wasn't fast, but she was stable. I had her out in weather I had no business being in.

Some dimwit sunk her at anchor in Yaquina Bay years ago. After salvage, she just wasn't the same.

Sounds like a wild time. Apache is on another level. The history of 1980s powerboats is worth a read itself; Don Aronow, Mark McManus, Al Copeland, drugs, money, murder, fried chicken, Don Johnson, and lots of excess.

The owner of the boatyard also owned a Caddy/Olds/GMC dealership, One day GMAC credit informed him that he owed them 6 million (that he no longer had and went up his nose) and they wanted it now. He went down to his 501 Chris Craft and shot himself.
I had a customer who owned a large expensive offshore powerboat, every Friday we'd get 10 barrels of Cam 2 race fuel and We'd put half of it in his boat. Saturday We'd put the rest in. He had another boat ( big Sea Ray) in a Marina in Lindenhurst that had several bullet holes in the plexiglass door. One night someone came thru the gate (that had a security guard) and took a shot at him, He was proud of the fact there was one going in the door, and 5 going out. They found him dead in his house a couple years later.

I've had Yamahas my whole life. If it were possible, that is what would be on there. They drill out the holes, and Mercs sit on different centers than Yami and Suzuki. Unless I want to patch and re-core, which I don't, this boat will always have Mercs. Those EFI's were just as strong and reliable as my old OX66- they just drink gas, where the OX drinks oil. The new Mercs are highly regarded, so I have changed my opinion on them. My buddy is a certified Yammi and Merc mechanic, and he recommends sticking with Merc when I jump to 4 stroke.
The fact that I didn't really pay for the motors helps. If I put 2 4 strokes on there brand new, the boat is worth that much more, at least that is what I see on boat trader. New boats have gotten so out of hand price wise, this was a no brainer type of deal.

OMC is non existent here. The new Brunswick design on the E Tec never made it to salt. E Tec are cool for older boats that need lighter weight, but if you don't have a reliable dealer nearby, no engine is any good. Tons of Yammi and Merc guys here, and Suzuki is taking over with cheap prices, but low service ratings.

The Whaler is a 1972 Sourpuss- 13 ft.

Another good customer story. I had customer with a 41' Chris Craft offshore boat, It had a big Blimp painted on the side and he made it well known he owned the Met Life Snoopy blimp (Airships International). he eventually sold the boat and moved to Florida. One night I'm flipping thru the channels and stop on a show called American Greed or something, They start the show saying something about this guy being Art Garfunkel's nephew, Then added he owned a blimp, ended up being the same guy. After he moved to Fla he started managing the famous 90's boy bands, stealing their money then started molesting them, Then moved on to retirement scams. In all they figured he scammed 6 million from people. He died in prison a couple years ago.

Scientists now have decisive molecular evidence that humans and chimpanzees once had a common momma and that this lineage had previously split from monkeys.

A friend of mine used to tell people who'd ask "Take everything you own and put it in your hallway and then try to live there"

How about Fletch? Didn't he live on a Houseboat?
