Well Downeasts are pretty much always single diesels, but really the question is why do you need to go 44 kts in a Downeast? The hulls really aren't optimal fort that kind of speed, it's gonna be a handful at anywhere near top speed. A sporty with a deeper vee and twins is what I'd want if I wanted to go that fast.
I bet the guy has all of that $650K in it and and maybe more and I'm sure he picked the power but not many people would when you could go with half that hp and weight and cruise all day at 22 kts and burn half the fuel. Plus there's nothing wrong with the finish but it's not a plus, somebody who wanted it for a yacht would be looking at spending a lot of money in upgrades. The boat's kind of a one-off, cool in its way but not something many people would want. imo.
edit: I don't mean to sound like I don't think it's a cool boat, I do. I was just more talking about the price and marketability, for whatever reason that's what I started thinking about.Last edited by iceman; 11-04-2018 at 10:14 PM.

I cant fathom spending that much money to be sitting in an uncomfortable enclosed room the whole time your on the water. I'll take a 10'x14' top with a good windshield but that's far too enclosed for me.

Apparently Freeman wasn't too happy about the outcome of this pilot house but how do you say no to a legend.

Cats will beat you up if it’s right to get tunnel slap but they sit real nice in the ugly. When I decide to buy a boat instead of running for someone else it’ll be a cat. Probably an Armstrong or ACI.

Hardest part will be finding/paying for her dock. I put my daughter on the houseboat mooring waitlist as I'll be long gone before our name comes up. She can use it in retirement in 2070.

I suspect there's logic behind the madness, but I'm too dumb to see it.

Maybe a restaurant was its first repurposing, and it was originally some kind of barge? Still available, WW

It was a barge - one of the two that basically dug the Cape Cod Canal (well the machines on it did the digging):https://www.yachtworld.com/boats/191...chvrenW2Piy33w
scroll down to "History" for the story

Boat Porn!
Thanks ice, I missed that, the history is cool. ‘’It was beached for years along the shores of Woods Hole..’’
Too bad the listing doesn’t have higher quality photos.
