Great dry fly sight fishing lately on tricos and terrestrials. That ends with this abrupt change to actual fall weather. Looks like today we make the transition over to cold weather, bwos and streamer season.

managed enough grapes to do a vino carboy

headed out to altamont to spend his bday out at south slope of the unintas ranch chasing

never seen the water this low there been a hell of a long hot dry summer

it'd been better if hed averaged 3 or 4 an hour and id gotton 4 or 5 all day
but i was havin a hard time not gettin em
spent most of the day on his favorite lake pullin streamers and we'd switch rods from the type 4 and intermediate full sink
and id row with the rod tween my legs and bam
    fish on
id get em slow strippin on the wind drift
cast and git em while its dead sinkin
    fast strip bam
    nother fiesty bow

he was gettin eats but not a lot of solid hookups
and id get hit on safety break no strip set hooked up phat
i finally got him to get out of the boat
and he scored a couple in one of the smaller lakes

got a couple tiggers to eat but blew the big slos mos dry eat i wanted

jumped back in the boat and ended with a nice colorful fall brownie

i sure hope im still able to spend a good 10 hours flinging flies with a whippy stick at that age

    2018 tenkara logbook

possibly my favorite little ditch in Utah. Normally by this time of year I'd have fished it a few times already and had some quality hopper days. Summer got busy, bones got broken, I heard it had just about dried up and wasn't worth fishing with our dry ass summer. A week of wet weather and I felt like it was at least worth a look, I didn't have shit else going on today.

What a fucking day. Plenty of water, fish in every spot that they should be in and willing to play along, some of them even so eager to eat the streamer that they went full airborne. Lots of people out and about looking to kill things but none of them looking to catch any brown trout.

My new book Advanced Tactical Indicator Nymphing for Lake Trout Volume 1 is coming out in the Spring, I'm happy to sign copies for maggs. Keep an eye out. I'm hoping to follow up with Mop Fles: An Anthology if my publisher is happy with the Laker book sales.

Hopefully there's a Mop Flies for Steelhead chapter snapped. Can't wait to steal it off the internet. Is that halloween trip happening this year?
