I haven't studied it to see what is new since I'm not too interested in it. Looks like more discounts for on mountain services.

Bed cost, location, four ski areas are a majority of the reason, combined with a higher than normal percentage of the limited beds being taken by people not there to ski, just to experience/shop/dine/blow $$$ because "it's Aspen." And in Ajax and Highlands case - harder terrain that is skier prohibitive, coinciding with the opportunity and availability surrounding everything that is Snowmass.

This is probably best put explanation I've seen over the 500 times its been attempted on this website.

The only thing I'd add is its not easy to get to. Yeah, you can drive from DIA but it's not fun when compared to the other alternatives on the IKON. Even a weekend trip for the average front ranger is rare, while at the same time they'll drive to Telluride or CB.

We are spoiled here in Aspen as waits beyond 2-3min are rare, outside of big powder day mornings. I skied this past Saturday and while it was a pretty busy day for Ajax, I never saw a 10min line anywhere. Big picture: this season hasn't produced a continual uptick in crowds over last season or really anything different from any previous years, over the broad scope of a 150 day season. On weekend powder days we have an uptick in front rangers trekking in for Highlands laps, but I have yet to experience anything unbearable (but I don't ski at Snowmass).

With Ikon changes next year, I can only assume the peak powder day rushes will subside and locals will continue to realize that 90% of their ski time has no lines, no waits and nothing to complain about compared to Summit, Vail, Tahoe, Crustal/Stevens, LCC, JaXson, most weekend days on the East Coast, etc etc

This is all true, but we need to make sure and not stop complaining. Look what we accomplished for next season! Don't give up the fight ;-)

Well let's hear it. I need a cheap place to stay there. Haven't found it yet.

Well, you're gonna say that it's not cheap, but personally I find the Mountain Chalet to be pretty reasonable for a place right between the Ajax gondola and A1, full breakfasts included, a decent hot tub, pool, and cookies and shit in the lobby. Usually around $200-250/night.

It's not 'cheap.' Skiing isn't cheap. But in the context of looking for a place to stay for a few nights, it works for me. And I find it no more expensive than other places.

I'm sure there are less expensive options around - haven't bothered to look. Check out the Tyrolean Lodge - it's down the road a bit and looks like it would be cheaper.

Although, now that I've explained all that, your argument doesn't really make sense. You say that the cost of accommodation in Aspen keeps crowds at bay, but wouldn't empty hotel rooms just cause prices to decline until they were at least 80% capacity?
