A friend also couldn't find anything for February, he's going in March instead. The struggle is real. Hopefully I can join him in March.

That film makes some huge assumptions. To claim that lift ticket increases are due to compensation and benefits for menial seasonal labor is asinine. He uses Vail as an example and claims that health insurance and 401k's have driven up costs. Right, because they're giving those benefits to lifties, housekeepers, and snow removal crews? Last I looked they only offer benefits to full-time year round staff and seasonal management.

I have a simple solution... don't go to Big Sky.
I agree it is a constitutional right for Americans to be assholes...its just too bad that so many take the opportunity...iscariot

Uh, yeah... so the thing is, when chasing powder you, don’t get to chose where powder is. You kinda just gotta to whereever it is. Otherwise, I suppose they’d call it powder waiting or something clever.
In any event, I guess you haven’t been paying attention to the weather forecast.
This week, Big Sky is gettin the goods more than any other mountain in the Rockies. Forecast is predicting 32-36 inches wed-fri...
So yeah, I’d say people will be chasing to Big Sky this week. I know I will be.

remember, when there's no lodging, you can always rent a sprinter camper van in denver or SLC (ask for ikon #stormchaser discounts) and camp in a grocery store parking lot for just $33/night plus gas. https://www.escapecampervans.com/specials/ I've been seeing more blatantly marked camper vans show up in my hood, along with countless out of state camper rigs. I guess I should be grateful that they're spending money at the local gas station and grocery store. today's window rate was 25% higher than this day last year, by the way. been that way for the whole month of january, and that's not just a random coincidence in the 2nd year of ikon.
with that being said, that powderchaser steve guy from opensnow prob has an ikon pass and he seems like a chill guy living his life the way he wants. can't blame anyone whose excited enough to ski pow that they'll van camp in the winter.

02-03-2020, 11:33 PM #3318Does anyone really go to big sky to chase powder? I’d put alta, snowbird, Brighton, solitude, targhee, baker, wolf creek etc. as powder destinations ahead of big sky
Deep Powder? No.
Big Sky is not a deep powder mountain. Usually < 12 double digit days a season. But a shit load of 5-7" days. Before IKON those would add up to lots of really great days. Now it all gets skied into submission by 1:00.
I would go elsewhere.I have been in this State for 30 years and I am willing to admit that I am part of the problem.

Being from NC I am the person who chases powder. I was merely pointing out big sky would be the last place I’d target for a powder road trip. In a good year they get maybe what a middling Colorado resort gets. They definitely fall short of Utah, Wyoming and interiors BC. Thanks for the snark

I got a core shot at Alta on a pow day... if you actually leave the groomers it happens, you should try it sometime Benny.
I ski 135 degree chutes switch to the road.
