I heard that Vail is going to buy Alterra after this season.

But if they start charging for parking, they'd probably do OK. Ugh. I have pretty much the definition of a love hate relationship with that place.
Well, parking is the whole issue. Cant make anymore, but, if they start charging, a lot of people are going Ikon/Copper, right?

Why not? It'll be expensive and they'll HAVE to start charging for it... but it can be done.

It can only be done if the FS allows them to.

Close in parking is still $ at Copper too. Basin would just charge for the main lot, extra for the beach of course. Sad to see half the beach empty most days because most of the reservable spots are empty.

If the Basin ditches VR, they lose the easy access overflow parking at Keystone. As I don't ski there, don't know how much that is used.

But I highly doubt that ABasin charging for parking is going to be what drives large numbers of people to Ikon.

    What do I know...not much?

Direct to lift, do in all online, take your own pic pass has never worked for me. Stop in the ticket office on a weekday and get it squared away. It it part of what has always made Wanker Park...well...almost...but not really...world class.

I have a hard time thinking weekend at The Jane will be viable for me anymore. This place is just so damn busy. It took 30mins to drive from Tabernash to Fraser on Sunday. We got a special kind of douche bag visiting town these days and I just don't want to deal with them on the weekends.

For me, there are big pluses and minuses from the IKON thing. My local ski area will be out of hand but I can afford to go a lot of other places to ski. I keep a good attitude but besides increasing housing values and unlimited work, thing ain't changing for the better for me.

Ha. They wouldn't be allowed to or they'd have to sell off some of the resorts, especially in Tahoe / Nor Cal.

If it makes you feel better I'm probably not getting an IKONIC pass this year.

I might actually take you up on that. Can I get a Danno and a Mitch to commit to a set random 2-3 days?

As solitude family pass holder, i'm impressed. Alterra just basically ring fenced Vail in Utah. As an EC based Utah skier I may have to take the month of February off.

I’m guessing Vail goes after Snowbasin/Sun Valley next

This might be the straw that makes me a Deer Valley passholder this year.

Wouldn’t at all be surprised to see Alta/bird pull out after this season. Seems like it’s got to pull current LCC season pass holders over to Ikon.

This++. I guess Solitude will not be the sleepy little resort any longer. Supposedly there are more announcements on IKON resorts coming. If that were to include Snowbasin SLC mags instead of buying an Alta, Snowbird, Brighton or Snowbasin season pass may buy the IKON. They get get unlimited Deer Valley / Solitude, and seven days at Brighton, Alta and Snowbird total of seven and (lets assume) seven days at Snowbasin. That's 21 days at the independent resorts. Not sure why many won't do that.

This is actually a really good plan.

Just don't plan it too early or it won't fucking snow.

Don't ask me how I know this.

Umm ... where is the unlimited Deer Valley / Solitude version of this pass? Are you guessing that's the direction they'll go next year or is this a product for this year that I'm unaware of?

That is really the pass product I want, but I think I have to pay full freight for a Deer Valley pass to get it. At least they'll take me out for a nice dinner at the Stein before they fuck me hard.
