with patience and skill it's possible. Easier prior to mounting however.

Another question.. I also have a pair of alpinist brakes, though they are for the long travel version (so the metal pull extends 2cm longer than the normal version). Does anyone foresee any usability or durability issues using these brakes with the regular alpinist?

I may be lacking in both.. worse case unscrewing the toes a little bit shouldn’t be a big deal. Unfortunately I won’t have a chance to grab a pair of leashes before I need the bindings mounted.

I took zip ties and threaded through the leash attachment spot in the toe. Serves as an avi breakage link and fit find without unscrewing the toes

Remember all, that cable ties are not all equal. I've bought some from the hardware store that snapped at the ladder lock under the pressure of tightening.

Plastic usually cracks much easier at freezing temperatures...

This was using them for their normal purpose (indoors). The teeth on the ratchet section broke.

But yeah, they're worse in the cold.

Some of them are made for solar panel installations and are uv resistant. I'm not sure of their temperature performance however. You can find them at Mouser & Digikey electronics.

At -20 who knows what a plastic tie will do ?

but metal split rings are not affected by cold, depending on what size you use will give different release values, you could even test them with a spring scale

Yup. I picked up a few split rings. I've been meaning to load test them by hooking some cord to them and hanging off my chinning bar. I need to find a use for that bar ;-(
