My holiday rum drink of choice is mulled apple cider with a decent but inexpenisive rum. Usually something from Nicaragua.
Or just what I usually drink but in higher volumes and with more festivity.
Also, I'd rather gargle diarrhea than drink eggnog.::.:..::::.::.:.::..::.

my favorite holiday drink the past couple yrs -can't recall the name. Learned it from the Martha stewart show
In a champagne flute- whisky, champagne, cider- all in pretty equal amounts but I go a bit less on the whiskey and a little heavier on the bubbly.
Then a couple frozen cranberries which floatskid luxury

We keep things simple. During the season we'll go through a couple handles of Bailey's, with most of that going into coffee or hot chocolate. I end up hauling some of it up to the mountain to mix with coffee because the bar at the local ski hill is always a zoo I'd prefer to avoid. We also make a simple hot buttered rum mix, and usually mix it with Myers'. I'll drink more bourbon than I should, most of it on the rocks, some of it with coke or ginger ale, and a little bit with eggnog. And for Christmas brunch we'll follow our cofee and Bailey's with some mimosas, then maybe keep drinking them until it's time for the afternoon nap. You couldn't tell it during the Holidays, but we really don't drink much.

It's well worth investing in a home bar that is capable of cross-over for various drinks. As are quality bar tools, especially a smooth spoon with a tight radius for when you're first learning stirred cocktails and then properly weighted shakers as you move on. And enough cannot be said about making your own cubes as opposed to using chips from the ice maker. You should be able to get a good set of bar tools at a restaurant supply store for <$50.
How do you like the aperitivo in comparison to Campari? I was pretty meh on the Leopold fernet but I don't exactly love how syrupy Campari is. Interesting that you use 2:1:1. I was always taught that a Boulevardier gets the same build as a Negroni, equal parts.
I had been thinking about splurging for a bottle of Basil Heydon's or Blanton's for the holidays but perhaps I will check out the bonded or barrel proof Grandad instead.

Try adding amaro to your coffee or hot chocolate instead of schnapps or whiskey (or in addition to whiskey). I like a rich dark hot chocolate with Cynar - it adds a bitter edge to the sweetness that makes me want to drink gallons of it. If you're feeling fancy you can whip cream with a few drops of angostura bitters to put on top.

I'm mostly just a homer for Leo's cuz the boys went to high school up the road from my house. But I do think the aperitivo is a solid product. Nice and bitter! And yeah, during the summer I do the typical 1:1:1 ratio using 4 roses (80 proof) but during the winter I like to go bigger with the bourbon flavor, ya know?
OG114 is tits but it doesn't compare to Blanton's for a good sipper. I'd say, get em both!Brandine: Now Cletus, if I catch you with pig lipstick on your collar one more time you ain't gonna be allowed to sleep in the barn no more!
