Thanks for the thought experiment and swag at some numbers -> this order of magnitude makes sense to me; whether or not it's an issue is definitely up to the tourist.
TahoeJ & your additional point about mainly comparing these to bindings that require ski removal during transitions is also well taken, but I think that only applies to 50% of transitions. (and 100% to people more flexible than I)
Cheers for the responses!

I 100% agree with you on the efficiency. A lot of the speed is made/lost in the transitions or by having the gear very organised etc. Most people are just really inefficient.
When on long tours, for me, the weight is going to be a problem. On shorter tours, it will probably be worth it (I hope)

I only used one pair this season. I mounted them up on my QST 118's and QST 106's and rode them through the entire season. My entire MSP part was filmed on one pair of QST 118's with one pair of SHIFTS.
For some reference, here is some of what I did this season on SHIFTS:
Big Cornice Huck
Really Techy No Fall Spine Line
High Speed Triple
Early Season Hardpack Resort Hucking

Anyone played with the Shift and inserts? Would be nice to know screw head types and lengths if I can...If not, I'll report back in a month or so when I get my hot little hands on a pair.
