I have been told in a lot of Canuckistan when an American marries a Canadian and moves north that there is a basic social distinction of being american and resented and shunned

maybe the folks I have heard that from are american assholes... i don't know. I do know that I like it up there

Some one has an inferiority complex

but not a widely spread thing IME, I dealt with a number of them on the river on fishing shuttles no problem even sold them dope

we are actualy happy for them

cuz now they can afford to go to the hospitol

In BC we would make more fun of Newfies or Albertans

Not sure how you folks would call it but I would have said Arkansa was south east but looking on a map maybe more mid south but at least i do have a clue, 50 states down there but only 12 provinces and territoris up here is 5 times less to keep track of

    if you care

I only know one Newfie joke. I have heard it from multiple sources.

Q: What does it say on the bottom of the beer bottles in Newfoundland?

    A: Open other end.

I gave a polite chuckle each time. And then pretended to open the wrong end of my beer bottle.

My daughter at UNB has made friends with someone from Newfoundland. She seems alright.

Heh. Quebecois do not consider themselves Canadian. And sneer at everyone!

In most of Quebec you might as well be in France when it comes to the Language

you don't run into many French speaking Canadians out here

newfies are great and they got the best newfie jokes eh

Went to the bars with some friends of mine who were French-Canadians. Bartender at a busy bar wouldn't serve them because they were slurring their speech. They yelled at him "We aren't drunk, we are French!" Everyone in the place was cracking up.

Prepare to be inundated in the spring around this year's wildfires. Morel season brings out the Quebec bush bunnies in droves.

They lied. No self-respecting Québécois goes to the bar sober, and they never call themselves French (except when they are in France, but their 'speak impediment' always gives them away).

I think the Quebec separatist thing is long gone, I wonder how exactly it tied in with the quiet revolution

When I moved to Canada people pegged me as American by my accent, but as that faded into a Stephen Colbert mix of gen-am nobody knew (or cared) where I was from. Every now and then the fact that I was from the states would come up, and I was told on more than one occasion "you don't seem American". That's Canadian for 'you're not a dumb rude asshole'. And it's meant as a compliment.

Regional patois. But they'll tell you it's closer to the original/true french

I had a local homey from Jerome Ave and W. Kingsbridge ask me where VT was after I told him where I was from, and if it was somewhere upstate. He was mid 30's and I don't think he had ever made it very far off the block.

Does anyone know if it's easy to get residency in What, and whether or not that comes with a health care plan?
