Saw something on social media about the Magic pond, and repositioning the water in the pond onto the mountain. In mid November! Guess there's a new sheriff in town! Do Work looks to be busy in a white way soon, but this work I am sure he will be very happy to do.

Sounds like things are coming along nicely for a Dec. 1 opening day. With the snow on the ground, some more tonight/tomorrow, and cold temps in the forecast, all that's needed is power to the green and pumphouse and Magic is on for the earliest start in recent memory.
BTW - I'm still looking for folks interested in being an Ambassador at the mountain this year. If interested, shoot me a PM. Solid benefits for skiing involved!

Just heard the good news. Seems like time for someone to start a new 18/19 Magic thread since it sounds like I'll be riding old red and skiing the west side on Saturday. Thanksgiving weekend. At Magic. AMAZING!

I'm skinning up early Friday morning and then heading to K for world cup festivities if anyone wants to work off turkey and pumpkin pie.

From a distance it appears that more than a few folks have been skiing Magic yesterday and today. Doubt there will be anything resembling untracked by tomorrow morning. But nice soft natural snow is a good thing. Lots of loud snow at the Sun Mountain today...they were quite stingy with opening trails. Got yelled at by Patrol because we had missed them dropping a rope and they ordered us to ski it on our next run or lose our tickets. Not kidding. It was a bit strange as it was happening but pretty cool after reflecting.

Did a couple of laps today both on the east side and the west side (Tali)
Needless to say, coverage is amazing - not only the snow depth, but also the fact that there are multiple settled layers
There is, however, a breakable soft wind crust on certain aspects, so bring your wide boards
Did not go in the woods, but am going to guess that anything low-angle should be in play with appropriate caution
Beware of water bars

Really psyched for you guys tomorrow! Huge props to Matt and crew. On my side job circumstances changed so we changed with them and moved to Jackson. While I can't wait for opening here tomorrow (it was surreal buying my pass there today) I am going to miss high fiving you all big time. Oh yeah, my condo on Magic Circle is for rent if anyone still looking. Dogs probably a no go unfort

I skied Witch and Black Friday morning. They had a thin breakable wind crust. It should ski much better once it's broken up by the masses. I did not hit any rocks.
Be careful on the east side rock work road. Many rocks were lying on top or lurking just below the snow that had been dug up by the groomer between the top of Showoff and the bottom of Trick. Not sure what it's like elsewhere.

^Saw you in the Tavern but I was nursing a newly sprained knee (I hope that's all it is). It was an awesome fun day for sure.

Saturday was overall a really nice day on the mountain. Conditions were great. Unlike some early seasons where all the snow came at once, this seemed to have come in layers that compacted, so things didn't slough off to dirt the first time someone made a hard turn on it. It was dense in some places, but that served well for the depth (though also sent me slow speed tumbling a couple of times on my first two runs). A couple of places (Broomstick for example) skiied about as well as I've seen them ski when they weren't untracked.
Plus, you know, the people are alright.
