M-Free 108s inbound.
I sure hope you all haven't oversold them. Expectations fairly high after following this thread for awhile.

Anybody A/B'ed the Rustler 11 vs the M Free 108? Just curious, still haven't skied the 108's.
FIFY. Reverse camber is the most revolutionary development since shaped skis, but rocker on everything is making absolutely no one but joeys a better skier.
Don't worry, I'm well aware that statement says far more about my capabilities than others'.

I found the mfree108 was more fun on groomers with better edge hold while carving but being looser and more drifty off-piste. Suspension feels similar between the 192s. With all the camber the mfree feels a bit bouncy to me.
The R11 does a more controlled carve/slarve in larger radiuses off piste and generally feels better doing large turns. Less bouncy.
I don’t think the R11 skis pow that well and almost would prefer the mfree drifty feel

I do know, but only from research, not experience. I can't actually claim anything about that era. I was born in the 90s and didn't dive into the deep end of skiing until 2011ish. I've lost sleep about the fact that I didn't get to experience 2000s ski tech when it was fresh. It seems like companies were just experimenting with fat race ski designs and rocker. I would have been in skitopia.
Luckily we have Dynastar, still bringing back burly, old fashioned skis from time to time. The menace 98 was a 2011 design originally, right?
What is the history of the LP105? What year was the LP105 "invented" or designed for the athletes first, or was it a consumer model that caught on?

If anyone has the smarts to timeline the LP105, can you try to draw a parallel with the Volkl Vertigo/Explosive/Gotama timeline?
Same era, no? I was a Volkl guy but was always wondering what my Dynastar bros were on about. This was around the Legend/Nobis evolution.

That jives with my assumptions, thanks. I didn't find the R11 to be exceptional at much of anything, but it kind of does everything at least passably. I need to get some time on the m free 108.
I only said that because everything over 100 underfoot was a missile prior to ~2010/11, and there were some really weird designs when they started shoehorning rocker in to everything.
Yeah, the menace 98 used to be the Sixth Sense Slicer (say it three times fast), which grew out of the big trouble (92mm), and really hasn't changed since 2011. Good for them for not fucking it up, it's a solid all mountain twin.
I'd have to dig pretty deep to come up with an explosiv/mantra timeline, they both have been around forever. Where's the Volkl fanboi thread?

When my 182 MF108s show up, any reason I should mount anywhere other than on the line?

On the line. One of the most intuitive skis I’ve ever owned. That’s after two good days in all kinds of great and weird/bad snow.

Here's a thread about the explosiv history

Regarding the history of the LP...before the Super Nobis you had the Big...think an 80mm waist. My Intuitive Big 194s (assume the flame Big predecessor too) had the same feel as the race room LPs 194s I owned...stiff bulldozer, big turner in pow and railed like a GS ski on groomed.

Couple things different I recall about the Legend History.
XXL came out as a 194 only in 2007
LP100 disappeared same year as the 115 with a white and brown wood top sheet fully replacing the 100mm LP. I think I remember the season line up was Sultan 85, Sultan 94, Legend 115, Big Dump. They also had the Sixth Sense Huge at 115mm, ~35m and a twin tip. I was a big fan of those skis too.

Thanks all. Didn't mean to cunt up this thread with Volkl talk... though I appreciate the comparisons.
Below is what I was remembering from the early 2000's... the Intuitive & Big, as the rivals to the Vertigo/Explosive on my chairlifts at Kirkwood.
Really makes me want an M-Pro pictured above... accompanied by a trip to NZ's Southern Alps.

Right you are re: XXLs, just found that. I'll edit the original post. Somebody on here shared a pic of the 100mm LP W/ the white/wood topsheet of the 115, so I included it. Must have been a Euro ski, I remember being mildly incensed that the LP was 115 at SIA that year.
If you want to dig all the way back to the BIG, I'd need some help. The first gen ('98) was the snot green ones, right? 188 was 112/80/102, 194 was 115/85/107. 188 was eminently skiable everywhere, big tip couldn't sink, held an edge really well. 194 was a charger, not soul-crushing but definitely stiff. (I think this is incorrect, I feel like the green ones were 190)
Next up was the pink/orange ones with the blue "BIG" on the tail, same specs.
'99 or '00 4x4 Big was the same ski but had a pseudo-swallowtail cutout that actually did help with shutting them down when you couldn't just smash right through it. Same specs. My favorite generation.
2001 Arno Adam 4x4 was a little thinner, but the same sidecut, I think 110/78/100, don't quote me.
2002 Intuitiv Big was same as 4x4 Big, but I think it had more of a shark nose tip; been a while since I saw a pair. Same dimensions and semi-swallowtail.
2003 Intuitiv Big was the white/dragon topsheet, with a partial twin and a boat-hull tip on the 188.
2004 Intuitiv Big was the same ski as the Inspired by J Nobis, 117/89/104, became the Legend 8800. The 194 was the 117/90/109 "Super Nobis" that became the Legend Pro.

Well this is fun!
'98 was before I knew what powder was, I was crushing gates on the SF/SL back then, but I think you're reminiscing over the '02 Intuitiv Bigs..
The real OG! The pink/orange Powder Big came in 175 and 190. 190s are 115-90-108, and I think the shorter length shared those dimensions.
4x4 (flame) Bigs came in 175?/188/194. 194s are 115-85-107 and the 188s are 112-80-102.
Arnos are a reskinned 4x4 Big.
Again, a reskinned 4x4 Big.
Inspired/8800 came in 158/168/178/188. The 178/188 are 117-89-110 and the shorter lengths 117-89-104.
The dragon Intuitiv was the same ski but maybe only sold in Europe?
194 Super Nobis was indeed the father of the Legend Pro, also came in the dragon top sheet and was called the Big Pro Rider.Do what you like, Like what you do.

The 197 SF (scary fast) was a fucking ripper, god those skis were fun.
I thought I remember a bright green Big in there somewhere, maybe I'm just wishing they came with the fluoro green/black top like the old course GS ('90-something). Like I said, I need some help here...
That makes more sense, I thought there was a 190 but just remembered the 4x4 dims.
I remembered the 4x4 big in 178/186/194, but I must be mixing it up with the Powertrac (which topped out at 192). I saw it in another thread as 188 so that's what I went with, thanks for confirming. The 194 was definitely a different animal.
There was definitely some dragon top Intutivs this side of the pond, but we weren't carrying the 194 by that point.
So was the Intuitiv Big with the orange/sage top 2002? Can't remember, I was drinking an awful lot back then. I always liked the look of that one even if the rest of the Intuitiv line was garbage.
