Stevens opens tomorrow with Brooks and Daisy. I get they need more snow. Feels like FOMO to me. Lame.
In constant pursuit of the perfect slarve...

Stevens 11/15/17
Me and the hooch up at Stevens early this morning. They started spinning some of the chairs this morning while I was up there. Ran into 3 other happy folks with a dog.
Snow was fluffy = Happy.
Dog was really having a good time too, her first time following/leading me around.

And... I bet the opener at Mt Dweebus is pretty fun despite the limited chairs. Nukage!

Obviously limited terrain. Top 2/3 of Queens was nice low angle ankle to boot top powder for a bunch of runs - kind of wish I'd brought the Protests. It transitioned to heavier cutup a bit before the lift base. Below Queen, it transitioned to gloppy sticky stuff for the exit. A small price to pay... A delightfully mediocre latte & watching the snow fall at the bottom capped it off. A nice mellow opener.
Exceeded expectations.
The one bummer was seeing patrol working on someone who'd wrecked themselves pretty hard halfway down Queens. Looked like their season might have been over before lunch on day one. Felt for the guy for sure. It was a bit of a reminder that between slightly catchy snow and cobwebs - it may be worth easing into things.

Ungroomerd.
This morning was a blast, so was this afternoon. Great snow on the top of 9 with some fun little areas. By mid day the second half was a great leg conditioner. Plenty of fun to be had with the right expectations. Skied until 2:00, when our legs were willing to acknowledge their early season status.

This. ^^^^
People not comfortable with off-piste skiing or who had carve-specific skis did not seem terribly happy. Fortunately they seemed small in number. It might have been beneficial for xtal to make it clear that the groomers were not groomed before people hopped on the lifts. If they did somehow make that clear, I certainly missed it. Maybe it was in the grooming report - but I suspect most folks - self included - assumed that with all of 3 lifts running the groomers would be, well, groomed... Like I said though - far more fun than expected was had.

Looks like a snow avenue is being built up on the Midway camera.

Keep an eye out for this knuckledragging kook @ the Great White Northern Dead-End tomorrow. There's nothing I love more than a deep opening (day)...
Green pants, orange/black/blue jacket, fogged over glasses under ze goggles fastened tightly to a black Bern helmut. Inquire locally about change for a nickel...
