Looks deeper now than it did two weeks ago. Betcha there's still a zillion holes but maybe, just maybe, the Fan is no longer a human-sized game of Plinko...

Those snowshoeing borders and aspirations of kicker building saved me from a solid hour of miserable self extraction

Damn, thats a little scary. that was recent? buried up to your waist/chest? Turns out, folks who dont mind having to work for their fun in the mountains are usually good people.

No skiing for me this year due to upcoming knee replacement. However I will be up at Baker this Saturday, Dec 2nd, playing music in White Salmon Lodge from 12:30 to about 3:30. I hope to have at least Change for a Nickel in the tip jar so hit me up!
good luck, fiddler! get ready, be patient, be diligent and enjoy a lot less pain down the road!

Alpental Update: Gib posted this on TAY yesterday:

Alpental November 29th 2017 update - Pretty good snow cover above about 3800' and with a little more in the forecast we are beginning to consider our options. Rather than forbid skinning and climbing just yet the Patrol has agreed to still allow travel with a couple caveats. No avalanche work has been done so the area is still in natural state. The main runs have been pretty well cut up but the skilled traveler will notice layering in the snowpack that might still indicate a bit of a cautious approach as we add some load over the next few days. And there are lots of two-legged triggers, some of whom get out pretty early. Our staff is still working on lifts and lift stations so please keep clear of facilities and watch for snowcats to make their annual appearance. I will try to update as weather dictates Happy Holidays /G

Yeah, for sure avoid skinning Cascade Traverse cat road until late spring. Skinning up Debbie's or Debbie's/Meister goes easy.

Right, it is prone to climax sliding after a warm spring rain. I'm talking about after that, when one is required to skin around beach balls. Mid-May to mid-June is late spring.

Pinned me against that tree horizontally, skis still on and in tour mode. 90% buried, albeit pretty shallow with left arm and head above the snow.

Lesson is don’t be dumb and treat early season “In-bounds” leg stretching as anything other than a true day in the bc.

It's relative to the season and snow pack as a whole.

Wear something that you won't be worried about getting grease stains on if the temps are anywhere near 32°

I'll probably be up there for two hours before I have to go back to the kiddos. Wish they had a daycare.

    I still haven't cleaned + re-waterproofed my outerwear so...

Last year's opener I landed on rocks and tomahawked over logs over on the wilder side of things. Sliders beware...

Hopefully you at least pulled them out of your stanky gym bag full of moistened gloves and fogged up goggles?
