Sideocuntry?
Do you guys hit up the sidecountry much? Beacon or no? Do you take bigger risks than if you were out touring?

Side country IS back country, so yes, beacon, shovel, probe and knowledge are essential. Once you leave the resort, patrol may or may not save your ass, so best assume they won't and that you may have to wait for SAR. For me that means a pack with extra layer, et al.

What kind? avalanche controlled mellow hike to terrain? avalanche controlled steep hike to terrain? uncontrolled backcountry on the other side of the fence? (Answer: Sometimes, Most of the time, Always.)

As long as the footy on the GoPro survives for the boys, you dont need no stinking avi equipment.
I would recommend tying a red baloon to the GoPro though, so it has its own airbag to float to the surface incase you get slid. Just saying.

Don't need a beacon if you deploy an avalanche poodle

I'm always Beep'n, I was caught in a small slide in bounds on a controlled MTN.
I had 2 friends , 1 pronounced DOA from an inbounds avalanche, both survived.
So I pack a beacon all the time. I don't see the harm in having it in my vest that holds a shovel/probe, also I don't have to say no or make a trip to the car to go out of bounds.
It's no more burden than having your phone.

I beep at Killington, just to show my superiority. Chicks dig it. 😘

Yeah, always beep in the bar. After all it is in a zone not actively patrolled (although there is always lots of patrollers.)
