New Expert Terrain Opening at Marmot Basin!

Posted in the Rockies thread but I'm so excited it needs its own post.

North facing and big vert! New rocks to hit. So pumped.

We should start a new Medium Mountain Freeride Team.

Joins up with the Caribou Knoll out track.

This exit trail will for sure be the new hardest run on the mountain

Despite living down the road, I haven't been to Marmot in at least 25 years. I'm thinking I need to make a trip.

Did you guys ski that new zone as a slack country area prior to this year?

Nope. It did get skied a little, but big fines and loss of pass. Permanent closure.
It will be a fun piece of terrain. It will be typical Rockies expert skiing though; thin, wind loaded, very rocky and thin with the chance of rocks. Probably thin and rocky too...

Cool! I've never skied Marmot, seems like I've got a reason to now. Any angles for cheap day passes?

By mid season I might be able to help. Its tight here though. I believe Costco has cheap tickets.

Its a beautiful place to ski. Thin snow but no crowds. Come after Feb 15 so Wildlife closures are lifted and you can do your last run off the backside.

Absolutely. If you aren't hitting rocks you are doing it wrong. Every ski I own are my rock skis. You get used to it.

I can tour guide pretty much any weekday morning and even a few hours on Sundays. Fairly easy place to figure out on your own but a 2 hour local tour and you would have it dialed.

Looks like new Terrain opens tomorrow!!! So pumped.

It was AWESOME!!! Great snow conditions. Top to bottom, Only hit one rock. Its amazing to have a new place to explore. Great pitch and my legs are screaming. The out track was sporty and got worse throughout the day. It will for sure be a deterrent for lap # 2 for a lot of people.

So 25 minutes chair to chair? That's about what I figured, I'll throw in a lap or two this weekend to get the feel.

Exit is getting very sporty! I'm considering dropping two turns past the exit trail and punch in a new trail. It will take 5 minutes longer but won't be nearly as terrifying.

Got to ski Marmot and Tres Hombres on Thursday, my first time there. Good times! Conditions were hard but it meant the rocks were easy to avoid and clear skies made exploring a new mountain much easier. The new terrain is a really fun run and will get better as it fills in further skiers right.

Overall really impressed with Marmot, likely will not be the last time I make the 4 hour trek!

As per most rockies resorts the season is just starting. Mid feb to end of april is usually our best powder month.
Glad you had fun. Hike Cornice next time you are there!
