The difference between it and Chicago style is the crust, which is crunchy and chewy, like it has cheese in it. I know it sounds weird, but it is highly addicting. I don’t like most pan pizza, but love Detroit style, at least at the two places I’ve gone to that serve it.

My favorite is New Haven-style. It's more similar to New York in that it's thin crust, but they tend to heat the ovens even hotter so you get a singed bottom layer of crust and then soft/gooier upper layer. The heat makes the cheese bubbly.

I wasn't saying anything about southern food, per se, especially given that I am a huge BBQ fan (see my BBQ trip thread from summer before this past one for evidence), just referencing what southerners (OK, Americans) tend to pour into their mouths and including DSM in that group. Comment was mainly intended to make the point that I find DSM idiotic and tiresome...not really trying to imply anything beyond that (despite how it may have appeared).

There's some glitch in the matrix here that causes the top quote and picture of a pizza to be included in every post I make in this thread. But honestly, I think my posts are only improved by including a photo of a Pepe's pie. All posts should have that.

Alright well now I want to try it- the crust actually sounds similar to New Haven style (crunchy and chewy at the same time, probably from using high-gluten/bread flour cooked at very high heat- the pictures on the wiki page show similar blackening to NH style indicating very high heat too)
