Sad news from Burke this morning.

    http://www.caledonianrecord.com/news...7cb4d7cdf.html

Burke Mountain ski resort employee was killed when a snow groomer rolled over Sunday evening.

According to a state police press release, Denny Degreenia, 45, of Concord, was killed when a 1986 LMC 1500 tracked and enclosed utility vehicle rolled for unknown reasons and he was ejected at about 8 p.m.
The "groomer" is an old one of these that the mountain uses for all sorts of maintenance tasks.

Denny had worked at the mountain for a long time and was a really good guy. Sad day over here
Aim for the chopping block. If you aim for the wood, you will have nothing. Aim past the wood, aim through the wood.

"A vast mass of hot rock is welling up underneath Vermont and extending into other subterranean regions below New England, new research shows.

Scientists used a network of thousands of seismic measurement devices in the largest geological study of its kind, detecting the enormous blob upwelling under Vermont, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts – and possibly elsewhere."

Couple inches of fresh snow above 1500ft. Good coverage on the xc trails around Stowe and Trapps.

Noice. You'll also want to brush up on your AVY 2 material and spend some quality time with your ice axe in preparation for the assault on the summit. Not for the faint of heart I tells ya.

I'll head out now to dig a pit in the backyard and send you a full snowpack assessment report for review. FTR, I'm only in if Mrs B leads the group! I will however follow your lead once we hit the soup line.

Twenty five dollar Bolton day...snowing....pulled the kid and off we went. First observation was the low tide. More snow in Northfield at 802ft than base elevation at the resort. Still they had lots open and although we scraped some dirt, wood, and rock there was also plenty of quality surface and fast quiet turns. Lots of traffic on the reserved terrain...it looked marginal down low, but i'm sure mid mtn and up is sweet.

Still good at stowe. Fantastic woods skiing in bopunds and stupid grippy groomers.

Saw one of you fuctards skiing outside to outside ski in front of me and my class on 183cm Solly Q labs. BTW your balance actually sucks, but if you want to go ski some tree PM me who ever random TGR guy on Q labs is.

EAST COAST ROLL CALL - Turn it up to 11

You're saying we need to go to the inside ski earlier? The Mahre brothers, Phil and Steve, were early proponents of this technique. Helps keep the skis glued to the snow, yes?

Just got down from BV and there was a temperature inversion going on, 32 at the base and 24 at the bottom of the access road. It remained snow all they way to the summit but the snow up top was much wetter and heavier than in the lot. Some moisture this week should be good for the snowpack, we'll be in good shape going into the holidays.

I noticed that. Snow was great for fish scales and smeary turns, but nowhere the light stuff we got last storm. I hope the rain down low is snow up high. Then we would be in close to all-time shape for December.

Looking forward to fresh on Washington tomorrow. Fluffy 3" on coast tonight.

Here is a ticket deal at BMOM where I put in some time on a new 800' vert glade this summer and fall. East Bowl is really looking good.

Hard to beat this deal. $32/ticket any weekend or holiday you choose. 1 day only sale on Wednesday 12/19 (note, this is a small mountain in some ways so sale may end when they shut off the lights at 5.

I believe something similar was posted in the magic thread about a week ago - can anyone recommend an individual or shop to get a pair of skis mounted in the Killington/Magic area?

Before I'm berated… no, not going to begin a first time power drill adventure on these skis.

Planning to be up early on the 27th
