Tickets were selling before lift spun when I was there last month. Of course your sticks go down the hill if you're not standing on them.

Thinking I may hit Mt Snow Thursday if anyone actually skis there. Don't have a lot of time to ski, and should be able to get more laps in than on ol' Red. Should be great everywhere though.

    Get some.

Looking good in lots of the neighborhoods. If Sunday River is a drive option for you, it is the same drive time to Black Mountain of Maine. Lifts have been closed all week. Freshy Friday's is $20 to ride an 1,100' triple with another 150' hike if you want, but there is no need as all the marked cut glades are accessible off the lift. Open 9 to 9 for that $20. If you go, tell 'em an angry beaver scent you. Cold on Christmas vacation, wet on February and generally icy conditions have been tough on the community mountain's walk up business. Good news is an icy base held most places in the woods and models are being very consistent with the snow.

Too funny - I'm in the town next door where Dr. Snow cancels school if Tom Meissner even farts the word S-N-O-W. Both my wife and I played rock paper scissors for who is off with kids tomorrow when the calls are made. I lost, I always lose. Growing up in Erie, we never had snow days - even if the snow was coming down at 10"/hour. I don't get it here in northern New England... Sure does eff up summer vacation for the kids (e.g. parents) too!

Times have changed, it’s all about the safety of the kids, no school admin wants a stuck bus or worse on their watch.

    Boreas,

I hear ya - me too on safety and such, but that argument really only holds water (or snow) when the school dist. is not a WALKING dist. Other than a couple of elementary school buses (my kid is on one), everyone walks.

Its a bit odd when and why they cancel school up here. We've had school amidst some nasty storms but they've also canceled school due to cold temps (-25 below that day without the wind chill). Regardless, this is a slam dunk as far as storms that cancel school - heavy snow overnight, through the morning commute and into the afternoon.

Superintendents are much more careful about school closures but its dicey in a working class town like Barre where parents have to miss work to stay home and can't swing child care. I'm lucky our superintendent is a huge skier and has the same idea as me when it comes to make the call to cancel.
