Meadow and beer drinker, just ignore each other, if it was meant to be you will find each other again, maybe not here, or Newschoolers, but somewhere on this beautiful journey of life. Love always finds a way.

DON'T PUT ME ON THE LIST OF DOOM BUT...

In my mind the conspiratorial element of 9/11 is something like this: various intelligence personnel had a notion that something like the wtc attack was coming, if not exactly the wtc attack, and the neocon political wing...Rumsfeld and Cheney...figured a terrorist incident would be just what they needed to initiate some of the imperialism and war profiteering that were sort of private core objectives of that administration, or at least Cheney and Rumsfeld and their staffs...so they ignored the warnings figuring some attack would happen somewhere and they would parlay it into their preexisting Iraq war objective.

I've sort of gleaned this over the years from an indescribable scattershot of sources I couldn't begin to recount, so if it's just abject nonsense, please forgive me and feel free to reeducate me or whatever.

That's not impossible. Similar to the whole Pearl harbor conspiracy thing in that hey who knows? The whole controlled demolition etc etc bullshit is actually impossible, but I could believe just about anything about Cheney and Rumsfeld short of that.

That's really the non-conspiracy, though, since "knowing something is coming" but not what would really mean they'd have to make sure not to be blamed when it happened. So no direct hand in it and no specific moves that would make it more likely, just a quiet dereliction of duty.

Which, combined with the incompetence uncovered and mostly ignored by the 9/11 commission, gives truthers more ammo: the most common deception in the arsenal seems to be noting how many people find fault with the commission report and conflating that with some consensus that it must have been an inside job.

As for 9/11, any second rate engineer can tell you that you don't have to melt structural steel to weaken it. Just heat it a little, especially after flying a plane through half the supports.

Not one video of the shooter. But no one cares anymore, so no big deal.

I've seen video. Have you been looking for one or is that just a quote from the conspiracy theorists? I've seen the same claim about the plane that struck the Pentagon, despite having seen footage of that, too.

Update: After telling him to not talk about it at work he stopped. But the other day it came up and he said he has changed his mind. After he first claimed that he was "1000% certain" that no one was shot and it was all staged, he now believes a few people were shot, but there was more than one shooter. And it was a conspiracy. He then started to explain his theory, but I stopped him and again asked told him I'm not entertaining that at work.

One can imagine a lot of conspiracy theories. The difference between imagined conspiracies and real ones is for real ones there is actual evidence and the truth comes out. The more people that are involved in the conspiracy the greater the chance that the truth will out. It's easy to say that the CIA killed JFK, that 9/11 was a hoax, that the moon landing was staged. Acutal evidence is another thing.
That doesn't mean that there aren't conspiracies. They are all around us. That Putin got into power by bombing Moscow apartments, blaming the Chechens, and starting a war with them is supported by evidence--it's an open secret. The Republican party conspiracy to supress African American voting is another example--evidence such as statements by the conspirators that that is the intention of voter ID laws for example. But just because someone can imagine a conspiracy doesn't mean it happened. The profusion of conspiracy theories is a testament to the damage done when the government lies to us. The rampant, bipartisan lying during the Vietnam war has a lot to do with the huge suspicion of govt on both sides of the political sprectrum we see today.
