    Snowboard Boots on Skis...WTF?

I saw an article in our local paper this weekend.

Really, if you wanna snowboard go for it, but snowboard boots on skis?! Seems like the performance sacrifice would have a huge impact on the skiing experience, even for the beginner.

There is another brand that did the same thing. And yeah, they weren't very aggressive, but supposedly comfy. Not worth it for me.

They've somehow been around for a few years.

They're intended for the sort of people who buy ski and boot carriers and the like. Any further discussion should be banned.

I was perplexed when I noticed the Apex boots at REI last week.

    Why?

    The great softening of America.

Yeah... they suck. I met the owner of Apex while I worked in the company store. I think they rent them at the Four Seasons now. Maybe the most unique feature of Apex boots- how loud they are- very squeaky. Honestly, the pairs I've seen are so loud they can silence a room.

It is the perfect boot for the terminal intermediate.

I couldn't ski them as the BSL for my sized boot was something like 365 mm (!!!) as opposed to 315-318 mm in a traditional ski boot. I wrote the guy a long letter saying no good skier could ever ski a ski with a bootprint of ~350mm+. They seemed to have listened and raised the boot in an attempt to decrease BSL length.

When I was in the Army during college, we all joked about birth control classes- Apex (et al.) are their skiing equivalent.

FIFY (actually). I wear P3 glasses--gold filled wire rims with cable temples. The original GI issue glasses from WWII. Same glasses I wore in college 50 years ago.

From a former rental shop employee this is a win. For example, 8 Texans arrive for ski rentals but 1 or 2 are snowboarders. When the skiers see the snowboard boots, they want that comfort but do not want to snowboard. I could rent the shit out of this setup....fuck, a Texas/OK/KS Demo Package. New Mexicans may not fall for this upsell as they are a little more savvy, but they still suck at driving.
