Yep, the home of snowmaking - arguably the most important hill in the universe (or at least on the East Coast).

First time out was a 5th grade elementary school field trip to Wild Mountain in MN. Then took some lessons at a tow rope served hill @ Theodore Wirth Park in Minneapolis.

I was conceived in the parking lot of Mammoth and rode in the backpack there once able. Demanded moguls, "modos, modos!"

Learned to ski at Bridger Bowl, MT at age 3.

I started at Ski Acres in junior high, January 1963. Then to Stevens Pass in high school.
In drove this drunken madman and stopped on a dime! Unfortunately the dime was in Mr. Rococo's pocket!

One of my earliest memories is being on the bunny hill at fernie, with my mom, and I couldn't hold my poles and the rope at the same time so she had to carry them and hold on to me, but was also like 6mo pregnant with my sister at the time. So I would have been like 2 and half. Meanwhile my dad was just out on his own. We went out there a lot when i was a kid, and westcastle/castle mountain occasionally because that was closer, but they didn't even have a chairlift at the time.

When it comes to learnin', "I may not be fast, but I sure am slow." I'm still in process but spent a fair amount of time at multiple places since we moved around a bunch:

Kansas City MO: 1st place and where I got hooked: back yard
Minnesota/Wisconsin: Afton Alps, Cedar Ridge, Mt Frontenac, Birch Park, Trollhagen, etc
Western NY: Kissing Bridge Glenwood, Chestnut Ridge
New England: Sunday River, Stowe, Wildcat, etc
Colorado: Eldora, Winter Park/Mary Jane, Telluride & Purgatory

As a young boy summers were spent in Cote d' Azur and winters in Courchevel, where I learned to ski. I was not much into skiing early on but that changed one year when I was 13. Up until then I had always had a male instructor and we spent a good part of every day doing drills. But when I was 13, father hired a Swiss girl named Elise. She wasn't much of a skier but she was accomplished in other ways, though I dared not tell father at the time. Years later, right before father passed away, the topic of Courcheval came up and I casually mentioned her name remarking that she wasn't much of a skier. He just said, "I know."

I think it was winter of 74/75, I was in 4th grade and a friend took me to Bridger Bowl. Got me on the chair and had me point them down a jeep road, couldn't turn, just straight into the snowbank.

Following year, had a few school trips for 5th grade and then the family got into it. I remember one splurge trip to Big Sky around this time, the "expensive" resort.

Bluemont? No shit. They talked about redeveloping that place for years.
I hiked there in summer a few times, complete ghost town. Cool spot, nice vertical and pitch for a WNY molehill.

First time on skis when I was 3 at Keystone. Distinctly remember falling backwards and sliding under the fence into the parking lot at the base of the bunny hill.
Learned for real at Winter Park with the Eskimos - good times

    Homeschooled in the CT backcountry.

Mohawk was a favorite if I could line up a ride and money. Also, see NELSAP.
