"Focus then shifts to a stronger storm system currently brewing
in the Gulf of Alaska. This looks to be the wettest storm of the
season so far. Models in a bit better agreement this afternoon,
though the ECMWF remains a little slower. Precipitation amounts
are trending wetter and have bumped up accumulations, especially
over the Sierra. Still some uncertainty with timing and snow
levels which could have a big impact on snow accumulation
forecast. For now, looks like snow levels will be around pass
levels Wednesday as system moves in, then warm air wedges in
raising snow levels above 7500 feet sometime during the day
Wednesday into Wednesday night. Then cold air wraps in, dropping
snow levels quickly for Thursday, possibly to around 5000 feet.
Regardless, still could see significant accumulations at pass
levels, on the order of 1-2 feet, if current forecast verifies. In
addition, winds will pick up as system moves through, with some
gusts to 30 mph in the valley and 50+ mph at higher elevations.
Given potential impacts to mountain travel, winter storm watch
remains in effect for Wednesday and Thursday. Those with travel
plans should stay tuned as forecast will be better refined over
    next day or so."

'Fist hardness'? Damn y'all hardcore skiers so sexy. After that lick your chops for Friday. Max accumulations laid down Thursday

I thought to even post on TGR you had to ride something greater than 100mm and at least 190cm. Every. Damn. Day. No. Exceptions.

that said, there were a few days of patch skiing this summer/fall where I wish I'd brought my SL skis out.
At least they still have a layer of metal in them and they're Volkls. Just think of them as a UL Manta

    3" - 4" at Rose overnight.
Mild & sunny in the valley now though, so prolly won't last.
Cinders was saying Boreal & SV are claiming 5" - 8".
NS have put back their opening another week.

No way Boreal got 5-8: when I "hit the gentle incline" it appeared they got no more than 2-3.
Boreal actually shouldn't be open - there's a thin skin of natural snow with no man made augmentation because it hasn't been cold enough. It wasn't a wasted trip, but only because I had business in Truckee.

Still struggling with 'land of the snowflakes'. It sounds so weak. And the political aspects of that name, well I wont get into that. Forever 'ofishul'! Make Tahoe Deep. Snowflakes. Don't forget to hit your stashes on Friday. Game on.

Well, last year's thread title was political and it worked out for us, so let's roll with it...

Was happy to heed your advice today. Snow quality wasn't all time, but it was definitely supportable and fun. I think ski season is officially here. With this next storm its really going to be game on!

Guys, BA himself said "as I have been explaining all week, no need to get overly excited and to hype the storm."

Am I missing something? What's political about that title?

Republicans think 'snowflake' is a derogatory term for leftist liberal libtards like myself. They seem to be more upset that we don't take offense to the term.

TAHOE: LAND OF THE SNOWFLAKES -- 17/18 STOKE

Paul from Tahoe Weather Blog says...It now looks like this will start as heavy rain up to about 9,000 feet. As the cold front passes through, snow levels will drop rapidly but I fear the bulk of the precip will have already fallen. There is a chance that snow levels could hover around 8,000, but right now this storm is trending warmer. That means the bulk of this storm will be rain for most Tahoe resorts. Mt. Rose could be the exception, but my best guess is that this storm comes in as rain for half the mountain. Snow totals could be anywhere from 1-5 feet depending on elevation, with 5+ feet for the high Sierra and Carson Range above 9,500 feet.

You nailed it. Republicans think. My post was a joke but amusing it stirred a couple folks. Snowflakes - each is unique. And fragile.

Low snow levels to start. Flakes and a white driveway when I woke up. All rain now, until....? NOAA's snow level forecast keeps the rain below 8500ft for the storm. That would be much appreciated.

Seriously? What happened to just calling someone a pussy? Call me a snowflake and I'd just stare at you in confusion. Anyways, tell me more about this hype train...

This looks like the most accurate portrayal of this storm.
