True, and I don't take lightly the spreading of such news.

In this case, it comes from the Engineering Dept at MSU, where my old man has worked with Inge's dad for years. I went on a hut trip in Canada with Dr. Perkins and his son, Gunnar.

If this is shown to be untrue, I'll wipe the posts, but there's no reason to believe so at this time.

"This storm was a bust for most areas and the next two weeks doesn’t look good." - WTF is dat

"Almost no snow so far, the Sunday/Monday storm looks like a dud, and a giant ridge is expected over the entire western half of the country for the next couple weeks. If the current forecast holds, we're looking at the lowest snowpack in at least the last 30 years according to today's Wasatch Weather Weenies post." - frosted flakes

if what norseman has said is true, that is fucking tragic beyond belief. Already tragic to lose two absolute crushers, but to lose one to suicide..... FUCK

HK was truly inspiring and I really enjoyed his writing. Such a loss, condolences to friends and family.

This has been just gut wrenching all day long. He had a presence. Carbondale is gonna be wrecked... to anyone who knew him, they will feel this one.

    Incorrect.

"Two skiers were approaching the north couloir when they triggered the avalanche. Both were caught, one fully buried and one partial. The fully buried skier was recovered from the scene by Gallatin County Search and Rescue yesterday.”

“On Saturday, two skiers hiked 6 miles from the Upper Taylor Fork trailhead to the north couloir of Imp Peak. Near the bottom of the couloir around 10,000’, they triggered an avalanche while ascending on skis with skins. The avalanche was 1-2’ deep at the crown, approximately 150’ wide, and 300’ long. The slope where the avalanche released was 38-45° steep with a north-northeast aspect."

Sounds like they didn't have beacons? If so, that is pretty surprising considering their level of knowledge and mountaineering experience.

Maybe she forgot to turn hers on.

Devastating, I wish the best to their families. If I was in the same situation as him I'm not sure I would be able to cope with it either. Life is fragile.
