Can someone give me the star wars movies for dummies recap so I know where this one fits in? Seen all the classics. Then there were the three prequels that came after the classics and I recall them all being various levels of suck.

Then was it the one with Luke at the end on his own island and that was supposed to be the first one after the classics, as far as timeline goes? And then was there something in between that and this newest one? I liked the story of the one with Luke at the end and simply want to watch the same characters and the continuation of that story line. Seems like the newest one is just that? So what was the one just before this one and why did it have different characters?

Do they make this shit confusing on purpose?

^^^yep Rogue One was released in between Force Awakens and Last Jedi, but the events in Rogue One occur just prior to New Hope.
