Yeah, I meant universe chronology. So they snuck another one in before the originals.

The Last Jedi
Rogue One came out last year, and that is a prequel to the original 70's Star Wars Episode IV. It actually knits in quite nicely and is worth a watch if you enjoyed the OG.
Edit. Oops. Slow reply.

Early reviews are out. CNN was not impressed, but I think someone peed in their Cheerios recently.

These days pretty much any blockbuster opens a "day" early, in that theaters do a "preview" screening the night before the official opening, hence the 7pm Thursday night screenings of The Last Jedi prior to the official opening on Friday. I don't know why they just don't change opening days of films to Thursday (but then they would more'n likely have "preview" screenings on Wednesdays! and then "preview" screenings on Tuesdays for films that open on Wednesday...). It's all marketing.
At any rate, the director, Rian Johnson, is pleading with fans to stay away from the film:

SPOILERS AHEAD
I'll need to rewatch it....
Some guy got fed up with 2 kids near him talking and snickering the whole time and told them to 'shut the fuck up' about 3/4 of the way through. Kid's dad took offense and a scuffle ensued, slightly distracting.
I thought it was better than the force awakens, but fell short at times. Laura Dern's dialogue really hamstrung her. I like Kylo's character about half the time, the other half he's downright annoying. Things felt pretty rushed which made Benicio seem kind worthless as well. I had a hard time warming up to Finn's character as well as his lady friend. The hacker search part could have been cut out altogether.
Snoke was kind of disappointing, after all the mystery behind him in TFA, we didn't really get much of a background. Seems pretty much like they found Palpatine floating around and it could have been him.
I liked what they did with Luke, and the humor interjected was pulled off well. Solid 2.5/4, but no Rogue One. I enjoyed the grittier direction that took for sure, though TLJ had some of that feel at times.Last edited by snapt; 12-19-2017 at 12:02 AM.

I actually liked the slicer side story and thought it flowed well. I thought Snoke's story was disappointing considering how much hype the character generated. I liked Lea's story and liked how she developed. My biggest disappointment was Luke's story with the climatic ending. While the movie showed how powerful with the force Luke was I wanted more between him and Kylo.
Overall I really liked the movie and will be seeing it again on Sunday.
