    Wasatch Weather Tortoise Predicts

    So, here's the story.

A friend of a friend of my son lives in SLC someplace. He's a BLM employee and has, as a ward, a desert tortoise whose care he is charged with. He's been doing this for years. Apparently the tortoise can anticipate the severity of the upcoming winter compared to the previous winter. This is gauged by when the tortoise goes into hibernation. This season the tortoise hibernated a full 2 weeks earlier than last year, indicating a (much?) more severe winter in the Wasatch this year compared to last.

Can this possibly be true? Who the fuck knows? But the guy is a skier and swears that the tortoise is inerrant. Make of this what you will.

I think this should be the start of the 17-18 Wasatch conditions thread.

I've never met a tortoise I didn't like, I'll start pulling my gear out of storage tonight.

I'm willing to believe anything that predicts a severe winter.

I also would like a desert tortoise pet.

My tortoise has not gone into hibernation yet, so it looks like no snow here at the beach yet again

BTW, his name is Dozer for those keeping score.

I agree it is a constitutional right for Americans to be assholes...its just too bad that so many take the opportunity...

I'm down with this thread. I foresee merchandise, an instagram feed... a merger with Vail and subsequent euthanasia.

That's my tortoises name, and so far (30 odd years) he has a 100% accuracy rating...no snow has fallen at Ventura county beaches. Pretty impressive record if you ask me.
