There's a reason the former athletes are primarily used as "color guys." They can provide some nuances and insight that a non-player can't, but they generally don't have the chops to be the primary commentator.

Yeah, the intent matters. A boneheaded thing to say for the fact that even raises questions but being interviewed by a female reporter who has an understanding of nuanced football can't be that common even today. (And that's not a slight.) I think where he fucked up was not acknowledging she felt disrespected and killing the issue right there.

As a white man I automatically assume whatever I say is racist and sexist. however, I am fascinated on the new playing field with the pantheon of disenfranchised people who gets a pass.
