RIP Tom Petty
Feels surreal to be also morning Tom Petty after a horrible event like yesterday's shootings in Nevada, but he was one of the greats, and I was a super-fan. He was the master of simple, accessible, yet amazing songs that echoed with the raw spirit of rock and roll- one of those musicians that I kept coming back to, over and over, for years.
Everyone's gotta go, but nonetheless, this one stings. RIP Tom.

2 years
really has brought home how much he was a part of my not so short life since I was a kid.
Renegade blaring from rock radio in the 70s
ALL of Damn the Torpedos dominating the early 80s
Full Moon fever was ubiquitous my senior year
90s he was MTV darling and a lot of that shiit made me tune him out. In early 2000s in UT a friend had to talk me into going to see him live.
Why did I wait so long. didnt make that mistake again

There must be another Petty thread around here, no way this one only got three hits two years ago.
Petty's passing really hit home with me, in some ways more than Garcia. Petty came onto the scene when I was in high school, he was the soundtrack for our keg parties in the early 80's. I didn't even really dig him that much at the time, I was a prog rock snob at the time. Later in life after I saw him a few times I really got into what he was all about, so many songs that mean a lot to me that I will listen to until I can't hear any more.
It ain't easy being a rock and rolla
