    Short Term Forecast

In the short term, several storms with increasing strength will move through the NW, through the end of October. The storms for Oct 25 - 26, will generally be mild, with high snow levels. More significant snowfall will be seen in the last 72 hours of October (Oct 29-31). While it's not super deep (5-15") it will be notable as there will be widespread snow around the NW mountains. The new snowfall will cover most of the mid and upper slopes, with some coverage down on the lower slopes. Normally we need 3 - 5 feet, minimum, to have a widespread opening of a ski area. So this is a start, but by itself won't do the trick. I am optimistic, based on current weather trends we may be open by late November.

    Extended Forecast

The active weather pattern appears to continue through at least early November. There is no indication of a sustained dry or warm pattern for November. However, we will see short dry spells and occasional mild weather. Typically we do see some mild storms with higher snow levels in November, but most storms also have a cold sector with decreasing snow levels and respectable snowfall on the medium and upper slopes.

Signed my life away and closed on the new house today. Excited beyond belief to live so close to Hood and contribute to the Meadows crowding problems. I’m also an Ikon fool so will be making frequent trips up to Crustal and Stevens Pass. Hope to meet/ski with a bunch of you this winter.

Finally Got the wife out on her debut MTB ride today too. 10 miles, 3 hrs and she was all smiles the whole time. This place rules.

    Word, welcome.

Send me a note when you're aiming for Crystal. It's no longer my home hill but I still dig it, and I'd be stoked to cruise around witcha. And you'll need to visit lot 4 @ Alpy, too, of course.

Have you skied all these places before?

    i'm confused

    looking at windy

Freezing level going below 5000' from Sun to Tues
but temps at 5000' don't necessarily show much near snow making temps

I'm confused by your question. Can you rephrase so a cave man can understand?

in Windy I have a flag at MHM base
    then
run the "freezing altitude" model [appears to go below 5000' for a few days...showing numbers down into the 1000's]
    then
run the "temperature" model [does not match the freezing altitude with similar temps at 5000'; i would expect at least into the 20's?]

    I’m skeptical...,

Water freezes at 32 degrees Fahrenheit. Not sure if that's part of the problem.

Otherwise, I'd just say screw freezing attitude. It tells you nothing. Just chart precip and look for snowflakes. Not looking good this week unless GFS is right. Even then, that's gonna be slushy AF and not sticking around. The winter! She has not begun just yet!

After years of searching for the Hodag, I finally identified what that monster is...... It is the brooding fog bank that hangs up there in the pass on otherwise sunny days.
