Any Meadows sliders shred the liftline on the new BC lift? Hows the carpet loading? I hated it the first time I used it at Crustal

    2017/2018 ofishul orygun thread

From a touring listserve I am on:

Just wanted to share a few interesting (I thought) pics of a recent slab at T-line Saturday 11/18.

First pic shows a cornice'd layer breaking with Q1 shear. Crown was about 20"+ inches.

Second pic shows a slight run-out stopped by the convexity of the lower slope. Notice how the heavy top layer formed puzzle pieces when they compressed and stopped at the bottom of this release.

I was surprised at the quality shear here.

    Where? Climber's Parking lot!

    And a response

I've seen these shears on the slopes there multiple times:
    I find it "funny" (not so) that in the slopes going into the gully at the end of the parking lot I've seen folks put their bivy caves in;
    It's always super loaded.

If you were up yesterday, we were at Illumination and skied into Paradise down to 6000' and I saw some interesting releases
right below Crater Rock onto the climbers trail.
I wasn't close enough for pictures.
    Just the doggy route!
Beware out there, the snowpack does not know it's the doggy route!!!
    Take care, all!

Rad stoke, fellas. Glad some of you got after it. I'm still nursing a hang over after getting deep in the barrel ages beers yesterday as I watched the Bobcats dominate that other team yesterday.

Speaking of the snow tire discussion...

I have a set of four studless snow tires that went with my bougie Euro SUV that I no longer own. 275/40R20 Maybe 5k miles on them over a season and a half?
I'd rather hook a Mag up than deal with the punters on CL. I'll get a proper ad up in Gear Swap. In the meantime:

With disappointment, we must announce that Mt. Bachelor will be closed Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week.

Damn fine opening weekend at meadows. Saturday then dragged out again on Sunday and came away with all limbs fully intact.

Also the new puppy digs the snow but what’s up with all the dog owners who just leave their dog’s shit all over the dog park area. Both days were shit storms in that zone. I think I have found a new calling as the scheizer police. Thinking about getting a megaphone and a vest.

I took a spin on it Saturday. Was trying to get down to sunrise to head out for a tour.

I wasn’t expecting the carpet. I always get nervous when using one to load a chair. Just doesn’t feel right.

Nice thick padding on the seat though.

In the experience of the elders, what will 3-4 days with 3-4 inches of rain in 40-50 degree temps do to the 30 or so inches of base snowpack? Rocks and branches weren't TOO terribly hard to avoid last weekend, but I'm guessing that will be a different story in the upcoming weekend. How different?

I will defer to the true elders (Jonesy and TBS) but so that I can be ready for elderly status...I will chime in. Also, much of this is probably clouded by bias for wanting to make turns badly on Friday - Sunday...

I think it's going to have an impact without doubt, but think we will still have ok coverage come Friday. I say this because what was below the powder from last week was consolidated with rain and then frozen. I do believe unless we get more than about 3 or 4 inches, it's going to be shithouse ice...and don't see that 3 or 4 inches incoming...but who cares. I'm going regardless. I would go if it was raining. Simply put, I am hard core. (AKA, desperate with only this window until the second weekend of December...)

Without too much warm wind there should still be ok coverage. Even just a couple hours of warm wind will do a lot more to the snowpack than days of rain...

Also things were super skier packed by the end of the day Sunday so it should hold up better than if it were just fresh snow. My hunch is stadium will be a mess because it was already thin cover with alot of grass and rocks poking out but I think the rest of the mountain will fare alot better.

EDIT: But that's also the optimist in me that wants this season to be game on

For sure "game on" will happen at some point. It has to be better than 2014/2015 season. Ha... even this past weekend was better than most of 2014/2015.

Depending on how the rest of this storm goes, it could cause a bit of a "reset" though. We're already down 4 inches in the past few hours. Sounds like a hard crash after a viagra binge.
