TIMBERLINE LODGE, Ore. – Snow plows are busy as Timberline Lodge and Mount Hood Meadows celebrate the first snowfall of what will become the ski and snowboard season.

Summer is not officially over, but Monday, snow started falling, and by Tuesday morning, Timberline had 8-9 inches of snow.

    2017 First Snow!

My buddy rode up at Timberline today. I'm waiting for Thursday or Friday for some visibility to get up higher. Should be really good skiing up near Crater Rock. Will report back!

Let the talk of a persistent, deep, weak layer begin.

I agree it is a constitutional right for Americans to be assholes...its just too bad that so many take the opportunity...

"Summer powder skiing in Montana! We got 16-24" of snow, so it seems only right to go make some turns--and what glorious, deep, cold, legit powder turns they were. Are we amped for a great season? You betcha."

Ridging and higher temps on the way. Most of the recent snow in the WA Cascades will melt off this weekend and earlier next week <7,000'. Freezing levels rising to 13,000' by middle of next week.

Yabut, preferable to the persistent, brown, dry layer.

Yup, I remember that as a kid. Week after Halloween is snow time until April. Fun times bombing down hills of pow on the trusty toboggan.

I gotta say though, if I lived at Mammoth, I would have grabbed the rocks skis and given it a go today early season or not.
