Why can't they come up with a simple medical specific identifier? It just annoys me so much how everybody requests your SSN these days. With companies (like even Equifax!!!) being so loosy goosy with their security, we really can't trust any body at all with private information like that.

Remember how not too long ago, we weren't supposed to give our social to ANYBODY with the exception of banks and government agencies? Now every company out there thinks they have the rights to that information. I say we start a social security number revolt! Who's with me?! Haha.
This is the inherent issue with a "connected" society. 1984 G. Orwell, Unabomber manifesto, all pretty much say what we did by connecting everything is what will be our ultimate demise. How long before everything in your world looks like "Minority Report"? I will admit I enjoy a lot of the "connected" benefits, but clearly see the potential threats. Cyberwars are the next real wars..power grids, water supplies, food supply chain. Without a grocery store most americans will be lost...total anarchy would ensue. No "troops" needed for these attacks. They're coming. To think they aren't is just silly. Why do you thing the prepper market is huge these days?

These guys are the gift that keeps on giving! WTF is wrong with these idiots?

And now TransUnion is getting in on some of the ineptitude action:

When can the government intervene and shut these fuckers down? Their blatant ineptitude (re: being cheapskates with IT funding) is literally screwing with people's livelyhoods. It time for most of these credit monitoring companies to die.

The problem is the big 3 reporting agencies are rocket scientists compared to the Feds. I know of agencies that have continued to use both SSN as an identifier and DOB as default passwords.

I just got a notice from Medicare that they will stop using SSN as my Medicare number. Took them long enough.

I always thought that was odd that it was not even slightly disguised for Medicare ids.
