I always thought LA and SLC had the same basic issues: a city on the wrong side of a mountain range. Now add some smoke to the cauldron.

There's a Mt Olympus somewhere back there. We're about 4 miles away from it...

Hazy (Unfiltered) beer gives me the farts. Widmer’s Hefeweizen was the worst

Currently 97*F with AQI = 105 here. Three days now of this

Hopefully clears up Monday. Currently 91 with aqi of 160 here, Wenatchee. I think the smoke is keeping it cooler, silver linings and all

hovering just over 100 aqi here in pdx
stupid iphone app says its only 76, but you look outside and the color of the air has been yellow for a couple days
iqair.com shows a range from 100-144 in the metro area

at least the smoke/cloud cover is suppressing the projected 100+deg hi temps

Got as bad as 130 here today. Worst smoke day of the year. Hot but a nice 80ish down at the water.

    226 AQI this morning.

Starting to feel the effects in my eyes, throat and a icky taste in my mouth. Not looking forward to barn chores this morning. Already an hour later than I would normally go out. Delaying the inevitable.

It’s explained in too much detail here: https://www2.purpleair.com/community...urpleair-map-1
So for us at a fifth grade level- should we look at purpleair.com using LRAPA or using US EPA conversion?

I tried and failed to determine why one would necessarily be better than another. Airnow.gov uses the EPA conversion, so that's what I've chosen to calibrate my own sense of "too smoky" to.

LRAPA usually results in a much lower number than EPA. If anyone wants to explain in more detail than PA's site offers why that is and why that might be preferable, I'm all ears.

The Washington Air Quality Advisory (WAQA) is based on lower levels than the AQI

    WAQA vs. AQI
The Washington Air Quality Advisory (WAQA) is similar to EPA's national information tool, the Air Quality Index (AQI). Both use color-coded categories to show when air quality ranges from good to hazardous. The difference is that WAQA is based on lower levels of fine particle pollution than the federal AQI. This allows us to alert you earlier to protect your health.

Smoke and dust are some examples of fine particles. Studies show that levels of particles in the air that we previously thought were safe can cause illness and death.

AQI ~160 and temps going to ~100 in beautiful downtown Sisters today. Mountain peaks seven miles away are invisible

Not supposed to clear out until late Sunday. Temps forecast to drop to the “quite pleasant” range next week. Maybe it will be worth going out to fling some bugs during the afternoon

159 and 94 in McCall right now. Tomorrow is supposed to be the worst day, probably over 200+. After that, cooler and clearer, fortunately.
