RAIN! We had serious rain last night! Everything is so fresh smelling. I can actually open the windows without getting a load of dust coming in on the breeze.

The air is pretty good tonight. I think I'll get the fire pit going.

Nothing like a smoke to clear the air after smoke. LOL!

    And here we go again.................

US National Weather Service Pendleton Oregon:
Smoke from fires in Washington and British Columbia has traveled south and settled in the Columbia Basin. Expect hazy conditions overnight into tomorrow with some areas of reduced vis possible.

Went to bed with a 75 acre fire about 8 miles from here. Woke up to a strong campfire smell and a brisk wind. No updates from Calfire so I’m guessing that is a good sign.

Air.gov says our air quality is good today but a quick scan of the horizon and a deep breath in say otherwise. Oof!

There should be a 9K ft mountain range there:

^^^Trade that for pines and what should be the Three Sisters seven miles out, and you have my view.

Now that the local Green Ridge fire is under control, we have about 25,000 acres burning in three fires about 50 miles north. And the wind is blowing out of...wait for it...the north. Oh yea, high temp today is 94F.

Have not been able to get out for exercise since an mtb ride we cut to an hour Sunday AM. Spent the afternoon coughing up a lung. My sinuses are killing me. May try for an 0700 ride tomorrow

and so it starts - air quality was "good" this morning now it's "moderate." Visibility diminishing.

Here too. A few local fires are still going. It's going to be a long summer.

That score is still solidly in our favor though.

I’ve been thinking about the Australian Bush fires of 2020 and what that would be like in the US if that happened. Australia had 72k sq miles burn. Last year the US had 15k. I’m afraid it is only a matter of time.

We now have 4 hepa filters in our house and the filters to attach to box fans. Hoping for the best this summer. I know a lot of people that planned most outdoor adventures in the late spring and early summer before “smoke season.”

There’s momentum gaining for more and more broadcast burns and “good fire” in the west, which could drastically change smoke conditions during the summer and fall. It’ll be interesting to see what happens.

Anyone got a link to a good smoke map?

Someone posted a satellite image a few days ago that showed smoke plumes across the west. Saw it while on my phone and meant to go back and bookmark the source, but can't find it now. Thx

Here's the WA blog spot - you can zoom out and see the entire country then click where you want to look

looks like the pattern changed. we were supposed to catch BC smoke for a few days but AQI is currently a pristine 19. time for a walk.

So nice to escape to Victoria and the gulf islands for a couple weeks and enjoy AQI in the low double digits. Currently ~250 at home, ~400 in around the Okanagan :O

Half joking. Really wanted to go but I guess I'll stay home and do a Zoom yoga class.
