    The Official LAGER BEER Thread

    Fuck IPA's.

Lager Beer is way better. Post up your favorites.

I am currently sitting on my deck relaxing after a hike and enjoying a Helles Lager from Bayern Brewing in Missoula.

To anybody who remembers the old 'Gannie this would seem like a bad joke but they went out of business and new guys bought the logos and trademarks and completely redid the beer. Good stuff.

Seems like Narragansett is preferred choice of cheap beers in New England. Which makes sense. Definitely a solid choice in a tall can.

Boston lager is tasty. I like a good negro Modelo too. Far too many to list, but those are my tops.

Oh and. "This ain't no lucky lager"

Before my current IPA crush, I loved lagers. The Sam Adam's Winter Lager was always a favorite as are Bohemia and Negro Mondelo.
To this day I still love an icy Heineken on a hot day. For reelz Moose head from Canada is really good too. And pretty much anything from Yurp will be consumed with gusto.
    Stay thirsty my friends

I was really enjoying some Crux Pilsener earlier this summer. Left Hand Polestar Pils is eminently quaff-able and widely available, and the locally brewed Slaughterhouse Lager from Roaring Fork Beer Company is damn solid when it's fresh, but they need to start dating their cans.

Now that we're moving toward fall I'm starting to seek out the more balanced lagers with a more substantial body. Oktoberfest offerings are starting to pop up, although I've only sampled Ninkasi and Great Divide's offerings so far. Ninkasi is a bit more hop-forward, while the Great Divide leads with a nice caramel malt note.

Sadly my keg of Zywiec clone kicked just the other day.

    I miss that beer already.

I drink (and brew) more lager than anything else at this point. A new little brewery opened in Leesburg called Black Hoof, and they're making pretty tasty German lager styles. Standards include a helles and a maerzen. I'm more than happy to go in there and have a couple.

Locally, there are a ton of breweries that have opened within the past 5 years or so, but only 2-3 of them that are brewing lager at this point. Given how rough a lot of their ales are, it's probably for the best.

I did recently brew a Czech lager as a collaboration at a local Gordon Biersch (up in Rockville). It sounds like it's selling pretty well, and I'm actually going back later this week to brew a second batch, so that's fun.
