    Denver Audi shop?

Welp, my car threw a p0299 (turbo/underboost) code again. 2500ish miles since the last time and the diverter valve was replaced.

I'm 1500ish miles into a roughly 7k mile roadtrip. Currently in Kansas. Gonna be in Denver tomorrow.

So, who is the go-to independed audi/vw shop in the area?

Sign that the turbo really is bad?

For real? Dealership in NJ said they won't do anything but replace turbos. No rebuilds. They wanted $2700.

Awesome independent shop replaced diverter valve for $300. Ran like a dream for the last month.

BUT, today I stepped on it in Missouri while merging onto the highway and CEL came on again....

Call Champagne Motors in Englewood and talk to them. I haven't used them in a while (no more Audi's for me) but they did a lot of work my old A4 and S4. They really know their stuff.

3zero3 are real deal tuners and know their cars so, ditto N1ck.

    115k 2012 avant.

5280 is squeezing me in tomorrow. As I suspected and researched online multiple bad diverters = bad turbo.

Also have what sounds like a bad front right wheel bearing going.

Time to pay the piper it seems.

So....I made it to Denver. CEL turned off 300 miles ago. It turned off immediately after filling with 91 at a super high volume place on I70.

So when it turned on in Missouri I had just filled up with "premium" at a somewhat backwoods station.

    Can bad fuel cause underboost?

    Yes.

Knock sensors detect low octane fuel and the ECU dials back the turbo boost pressure to compensate.

But I would not think that would throw a code, that is just the ECU doing its everyday job. But I don't know shit about Audi's.

Fwiw Eric at 5280 is the real fucking deal. Should be all fixed up by tomorrow. Turbo was crap and drivers front wheel bearing too.

Driving a killer Transit rental van right now. Might be my next car.

    How's the dealer in Glenwood?

Wife's Q5 TDI is still on Audi Care and they need to perform the fix, if it's approved.

Ok, so the turbo was replaced over 1k miles ago. Big improvement. Supposedly the drivers side front wheel bearing too.

Either way the car is making an ever increasing "propeller plane" type sound at any speed over 20mph. Been going on for 2k miles and was what we thought was the wheel bearing.

Did 300ish miles today and by the sound got ever increasingly louder as the day went on.

Tomorrow AM it will probably be fairly quiet again so it seems to be temp related.

    Front diff?

I'm sure there some audi specific shops in town, but Deeter Automotive on Frontage has done great work for me in the past. Plus side is you can swing by single's shop while you're there.

drop me a PM and I'll buy you a drink this weekend

Do you have a roof rack? Wind turbulence could be the source of that sound when moving.

What motor is this? 2.7T? Does the sound get louder based on either RPM or speed? Sounds like it could be a leaking flex joint. Has it thrown any EGT or O2 sensor codes?

I do, but this sound is 100% under the hood somewhere.

    2.0t

    Speed related and not rpm.

No codes thrown since turbo was replaced.

I know nothing about Audis but any chance it us just the other wheel bearing? Once you change out the noisy side the other side often comes into play.

Errr...cv joints. They don't care about rpm either.

The shop checked both bearings. Sound basically didn't change or lessen when other bearing was installed.

Has anyone looked at the propshaft bearing?

Have someone check the timing chain/belt tension. My audi is kaput now.. timing chain tensioner went.... but just thinking that I've heard some high repetitious clicks on some VW/Audis that get older, make a gas almost sound like a diesel..

But that would be more RPM based.

Fwiw I have over 117k miles on a 2012. Fucker has been driven alot and has only seen one major repair. The way it drives is worth it for most people.
