Home Theater Display (no built in tuner) vs. TV (with tuner)....why not?
So there are some good deals out there on home theater displays. They appear to do everything (including 'smart' features) but receive over-the-air content, which I haven't used in years. We have comcast, netflix, and a mac-mini that stores torrented stuff.
Is there a reason not to buy one of these under the circumstances?

Nope. You can always buy an external TV tuner if you need one.
BTW. Over the air TV is great depending on the service at your house. I get 41 HD channels on a $30 antenna. The main networks, the public channels, the local channels, and some random movie stations..

I run a separate tv tuner in my home theater. It's hooked up to my receiver via HDMI. We get quite a few channels with a decent little antenna that I mounted on the roof but I mostly only use it to watch broncos games. Otherwise we just get content through streaming services and Blu-rays on the ps4.

Is there much of a price advantage?
I'm completely sold on the LG Roku TV (on-board Roku) that we have. One of the slickest simplest interfaces I've ever seen on any device. Better even than the stand alone Roku box itself. Especially so compared to the clunky Samsung smart TV we also have.
If you haven't seen one I'd recommend taking a look.

Same. We have a Plex Server running on FreeNAS and a SiliconDust extend set up for recording. I have a second SD Prime available for the free cable our condo association pays for. I can definitely recommend this route, but be mindful the set up may end up costing more than your tv/monitor.
