light hardtail

I'm looking for a new bike.
Currently riding a Trek 8000.
It weighs 26.5 pounds with a Rock Shox SID front fork.
Not interested in 29ers - so 27.5.
Not interested in full suspension.

I want a hardtail that weighs under 25 pounds.
I am 5'9'' and weigh 140.

I ride mostly cross country (5-8 hour rides) and tight singletrack.
I don't mind the lack of rear suspension on techy descents.

I want a light bike for around $2500.

Any suggestions?

For what its worth, i've loved my cannondale FSI. had a flash, that got stolen then got a 2016 FSI Carbon 2. i bet you could pick one of these up on closeout or lightly used in your budget. its a 29" so unless that completely rules it out, i'd seriously look at it. 21 lbs and snappy as hell. read the reviews- everyone gives it kudos for responsiveness and agility even in 29". get the medium though. i'm 5'10 with gangly arms and legs and went with a large and regret not trying a medium before i bought. seems large for me, but i've gotten used to it.

Specialized Epic Carbon Hardtail is a nice looking ride. Not sure if it is sub-29 though.

That's easy. Most used carbon hardtail xc bikes are going to be at least that light and smaller wheels will help too.

I ride a kona king kahuna from 2012, which was their first 29er carbon hardtail. Not a super light frame, mid-range build, weighs 23lbs even with pedals and bottle cages.

Norco, KHS, giant, scott, all have 27.5 carbon XC bikes off the top of my head.

Why no love for 29? Seems like all the light hardtails right now are 29. For where you live and ride 27+ might be pretty good. I've ridden that Oat Hill chunk ... 27+ could be good on less traveled and chunky trails.

Giant XTC Advanced 27+ should be around 23ish lbs and on end of season clearance at some point, maybe right in your budget.

I'm the same size and went with a large, got a 0 setback post and shorter stem and have been super happy. I have long legs + short torso so I usually have to figure out where I want to compromise. Might be worth playing trying out (I got the stuff to swap stems if you need help.)

21lbs and it's even a 26". Bet you could get it for $2500 or less. Parts spec is a bit of a mutt though, needs a M980 crank and some custom wheels IMHO.

Transition's hardtails are now carbon. Looks fun. Yes, there's a 27.5. You could probably build it up super light, but not have stupid race geo.

You could also consider a Ti hardtail, $862 for the frame, and with some very careful parts picking you could build it up for under $2500 and have it be 23lb or so.
