Sick shots! Snapped this with the iPhone and I was able to keep my kids from drowning in the water while trying to take it all in at Redfish Lake. As always, all pics here load sideways. Click image for larger version.

I can not take any credit for this photo. Where I found it, it was claimed to be a NASA photo. It is the coolest I have seen yet. But if I ever travel to see an eclipse I am headed for a sunset or sunrise.

Completely fake (edit.. or maybe not. See posts below). The eclipse occurred mid-dayish when the sun is not anywhere near the horizon. At no point during this eclipse could someone (even NASA) have managed to capture that scene. Additionally, that looks like an annular eclipse.
Facebook friends keep sharing and gushing over a bunch of these fake "photos" that should actually be categorized as digital art. I've given up trying to convince people that the photos are not real eclipse photos.

    That said...
Excellent shots Andrew and others . That photo with the plane is also pretty amazing. I can't wait for the eclipse here in Vermont in 2024 Hopefully it isn't too cloudy in April.

    My photos:
    At Maximum -

Stacking four neutral density filters didn't work so well but I suppose it created a somewhat interesting effect -

Aim for the chopping block. If you aim for the wood, you will have nothing. Aim past the wood, aim through the wood.

After the callout, I looked into this piece of digital art, and it is absolutely fake.
I am still convinced that you could see an eclipse at sunrise or sunset. Because the path of the moons shadow crosses the earths surface, and would coincide with a sunrise and sunset. I have no idea how it would look with angles atmospheric distortion and cloud cover. Maybe I will still have to try and travel and find out.

I repent sharing a photo I actually took

I actually have to take back my post. You are correct about coinciding with a sunrise and sunset. The eclipse was actually first viewable roughly 2,500 miles off the coast of Oregon at -171 degree longitude (aka WAAYYY out in the Pacific Ocean). Or it could be from sunset out in the Atlantic Ocean where the eclipse ended. Here NASA very well could have been flying a plane that captured that image. On closer inspection, what I thought was an island actually looks to be a large cruise ship on the horizon. It would make sense that there would be a cruise ship parked in the perfect location to catch the sunrise eclipse. But there are still elements of that shot that look very fake. It is likely some artifacts of creating a HDR image and oversaturation.

It is confirmed fake. The eclipse image was pasted on top of a sun set photo. You can see clouds behind the sun. As art it still looks cool. But so do pictures of unicorns fighting grizzly bears.
I am intrigued by the idea of trying to catch a sunrise/sunset eclipse. Maybe I'll try to make it to Argentina.

I didn't want to try to hard, didn't bring a tripod or anything. I made a few test shots and figured out framing. Shot 3 or 4 frames during totality and enjoyed the rest

    ^^Excellent.
I'm getting my location all picked out for 2024.
The sun likely won't be as large as seen below. I'm going to have to do some test shots in the years leading up to this.
