WTB: 2 bike swing out hitch rack
Platform style for 2 mountain bikes. 1-1/4" hitch. Swing out style for access to back of a wagon with bikes still on the rack.
Thanks

From the limited research that I have done on this in the past, I think there is one manufacturer that builds a swing out platform style rack - Rockymounts. I'm not sure if it comes with a 1 1/4" hitch option.
You could combine two racks - combining a swingout rack with a platform style rack, but I'm pretty sure that you're stuck with 2".

Wow. Ok thanks for the research! I guess that makes sense. 1-1/4 probably doesn't have the strength for all that weight hanging at an angle.

NP. In my opinion this would be an awesome combo. I just gave back the swing out hanging rack I had been borrow and bought a platform and I really miss the swing out part...

Not sure if you can convince them to build a 1 1/4 swingarm, but it's a small shop, so you could try.

Getting the hitch installed next Thursday. Gonna pick up a Kuat Sherpa 2.0 or a Thule T2 since they tilt away so you can open the hatch.
It's a big up front cost, but I will feel better about it on a 7000 mile road trip and the gas milage will be alot better.

Just got a Thule Vertex 4 swing, I think they make a 2 also. Pretty happy with it so far, fairly quick and easy to swing it out of the way so the tailgate opens. Window on the cap opens without moving the rack.

Get a 1UP. Get a 2" hitch. Thank me later.
However many are in a shit ton.

Can't put a 2" hitch on an audi wagon unfortunately. They make a 1.25" to 2" adapter but then then the rack sticks out another 4-6".
The 1Ups are dope, but gotta be heavier than a Thule/Kuat no?

No, 1UP is all aluminum and quite lightweight actually.

It's a wash on weight comparisons in terms of how it will affect your car. If you're injured or feeling sluggish though, the 1up lets you separate the mounts ant load the single first.
The only thing the 2" would get me is a touch more solidness with 3 DH bikes. But we're talking about something that's already more solid than the others regardless of hitch size. However many are in a shit ton.

I reached out to rackattach for pricing and got the following. Pretty reasonable!
Hi Seth,
A large will work best on the F150.
Load limit is 300-350(max) pounds in open or closed.
$375 with a hitch pin and anti rattle clamp.
FedEx ground depends on zip code
We are about 3-4 weeks out.
Thx!
Walter

If you want a 2" hitch check out torklift central. They do some custom hitches. They made a 2" hitch for our prius and have a few 2" hitches for smaller vehicles in their eco hitch line.

I had a torklift on my vw. Their powder coat is garbage.

Wow. About to pull the trigger on the 1up. Didn't realize you can buy a single bike version in 1.25" and then easily bolt on the extra bike add-on and it's actually cheaper than buying the 2" double version.
I know its the right choice, but fuck that's spendy. Absolute worse case scenario the resale value is higher if I end up broke in 3 or 4 months

I'm selling a used 2" T2 in CO for cheaper than a 1up. PM if interested. It's in good shape, built in locks, tilts down.

You'll never regret the 1up purchase.
Glad you didn't go with the Sherpa. Horrible. So much movement, hitch constantly loosening, arm wearing on fork. The biggest thing though, limited wheelbase capacity. My Chili came off multiple times!! DH bikes out of the question. However many are in a shit ton.
