That's sad to hear about Pony Express. Was a great lodge 07/08 as well as where the bus dumped you for Moonlight when it was a separate thing.
Nice they still allow campers there, but fuck, that must be cold.
    No longer stuck.

    18BBi Bozeman: B-Team Tryouts, March 2/3/4, 2018

The Pony Express lift is still there and running. So mags like Leavenworth Skier can just get out of bed, walk 20 feet, and get on a lift. (As long as they already have a lift ticket.) They tore down those buildings/yurts/whatever that had the day care and that little burrito stand. For some reason they put in an outdoor basketball court that I have never seen anyone use. The resort does some stupid shit sometimes. That parking lot is a fairly isolated part of the mountain now, no one ever goes there anymore.

Edit to add: people staying at my place will walk about 20 feet, get on a free 2-minute skier shuttle bus, that drops you right at the main base area.

I might be movin' to Montana soon
Just to raise me up a crop of
    Dental Floss

    Raisin' it up
    Waxen it down
    In a little white box
    That I can sell uptown

    By myself I wouldn't
    Have no boss,
But I'd be raisin' my lonely
    Dental Floss

    Raisin' my lonely
    Dental Floss

Well I just might grow me some bees
But I'd leave the sweet stuff
To somebody else . . . but then, on the other hand I would

    Keep the wax
    'N melt it down
    Pluck some Floss
    'N swish it aroun'

    I'd have me a crop
An' it'd be on top (that's why I'm movin' to Montana)

Oh, man.....I took a stunning shot of that mountain reflected in the window of that beautiful little rock chapel down the road that I'm sure was mixed in with a couple thousand other slides I threw away a few weeks ago. Damn. Woulda been a great shirt or poster image for the event.

Man it would be nice to get enough snow to open gullies 4,5 and 6. They're so sick when coverage allows

Lone Peak Triple lift is now the Powder Seeker 6-person with heated seats and a wind-blocker bubble. Don't knock it till you try it.

out of curiosity, y'all got lodging recs and dining recs and camping recs and travel beta for, say, some fools from Cali/Nevada?

a list of reasonable lodging options, good (cheap) food, and the bars with the best craft beer selection would be key.

Named after a Patrolman, Gordon L.

Nothing bad happened to him there. His girlfriend was a Vegetarian which made him a Vegetarian and he ate a lot of Zucchini and skied that line a lot.

The former Bowl chair (The Triple) was a long and painful ride. 3 minute laps make the bowl very worthwhile to ski.

Yes, still to be added to the first few posts. Others should feel free to trickle in the recs, and I'll add em to the pile at the top of the thread.

Lone Peak is a striking mountain to view, but as far as skiing goes, it looks more intimidating than it really is. Challenging terrain, but very skiable and lots of options.

For example on the back side of the peak not visible on Harry's map there is a single black diamond called Liberty Bowl, which is the easiest way down. It's an awesome, massive bowl, but not hard in good conditions.

The Challenger face also looks steep on the map, but again, out of sight around the ridge to looker's right are two easier runs called Midnight and Moonlight. Great runs that hold great snow because they face north.

So bottom line is don't worry about it.

ETA: Not to mention the place has a shitload of really great blue runs too on the lower mountain and Andesite mountain.

Sounds like a blast, hoping I can make it as a BBI first timer. Big Sky has some killer skiing! Haven't been to Bridger and it has been on the bucket list. Anybody planning on spending a day touring?
