WA/San Juan Islands mags. Need a small boat for a few hours this summer.
Long shot probably but....
If anyone is in the San Juan Islands and has a small boat (not a dinghy with an outboard) or knows someone who would lend, rent, charter, whatever. Flexible timing, as long as it's a sunny day.
I need to scatter my mom's ashes in San Juan channel. Promise to do so downwind of the boat. Probably would have a maximum of 5-6 adults aboard. I have some experience with boat operation and am not - most of the time - a maroon.
I've looked for something suitable for commercial bareboat charter up there and have found nothing that fits the bill.
Many thanks if you can help.

It was one of his favorite spots. We just did it at the shoreline. He had this old trustworthy canoe we took out for crabs that if available I would offer.
Maybe one of the local islands have some kind of boat rental then just take ferry out of Anacortes to said island. Lopez is a cool island but some others around as well. I am guessing just doing from the ferry might be too informal and maybe frowned upon.

Yeah, not from the ferry I don't think. We had an amazing house on Shaw facing due south down San Juan channel. Sadly she sold it in the early 1980's, but I think she'd be pretty happy laid to rest off the point.
I think my searches have been pretty creative for the right charter or rental, but they seem to be too much boat, long or skippered charters only, too small etc. There must be something out there and I'm pretty sure my mom is getting tired of the box in my office.

I have family over in Burlington. I'll shoot a text and see if they know anyone that can help.
Edit. My cousin got back to me in record time. He says he doesn't know anyone with a boat large enough. Sorry I couldn't help

Only require this
Do I need to have boat operating experience to rent a boat?
Yes, we do require customers to have some boat operating experience. Our top concern is the safety of our customers.

You can borrow my sea kayak if you want to make it a solo mission.
Maybe try PMing refried. Pretty sure he lives on one of the islands.

A friend on FB just posted that they had a beautiful ceremony spreading a loved ones remains off a WA ferry. I guess they limit it to one per ride and you have to book it in advance but then they do a good job of letting you have a little privacy off the back of the boat to do your thing. He said it was really nice. Some details here: https://www.wsdot.wa.gov/Ferries/inf...cialOccasions/
Looks like Anacortes to Friday Harbor is one route they permit this on... may be worth investigating if you can't find a private boat.
