The Best Western in Stamford CT was pretty clean and when I went down to the desk at 3 AM to bitch about the kids partying next door not only was he awake when I got there, he also did something about it.

But seriously, I'm not sure where the boundary lies between Country and Western.I'm not even sure of what's "Western". Educate me, irul. I know you grew up in the exact area where they met and evolved.

I love it but can't name the slot it should be in

Yeah I like Bob Wills but I'd take Marty Robbins, and I KNOW this is Western.

No John Ford? Seriously? I like em all--even the ones with John Wayne--but My Darlin' Clementine is my favorite.
I'd throw in Blazing Saddles for laughs. (How 'bout some more beans, Mr. Taggart? I'd say you've had enough! )
Treasure of the Sierra Madre (Badges? We don't have no badges.)
    All the Pretty Horses

Robert Earl Keen says he couldn't decide what kind of music he plays until he looked out his motel window and saw the Best Western sign.
If you need a distinction I'd say if it comes from Texas or California or anyplace in between it's Western; otherwise it's Country. So Buck Owens is Western, more specifically the Bakersfield sound (Bakersfield is to the country of the 50's--strings, choruses--as punk is to prog rock)

Clint Eastwood film sidenote: viewing Sondra Locke is a known cause of erectile dysfunction.
