The Protest stoke is strong in this thread. 2funky and N1CK both of your guy's skis look killer! That's the plan. Hippy meadow skipping is pretty much my MO so these skis should make plenty of turns over the next few years. Ha! My parents are celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary this week so I had the skis shipped to their house since I wasn't going to be home.

I'm so stoked on the way the red turned out. I was worried that it might turn out more pink vs blood red. Keith worked hard to get it right. He redefines what 'custom' means, seriously.
FWIW, the backup plan was trans grey over ash. If anyone wants to steal that idea, I think it would look SICK with some type of basic logo like the font used on the GPO.

So many hot skis. I'm questioning my financial resolve in not buying a pair of 192 Protests.

I go black bases. Easy to repair and seem more durable. Who knows.

Agreed. I thought I was the only one. It's not as if I'm spansered or anything. I don't know about durability, but ease of maintenance counts for me.
It's much easier to see and perform base repairs/patches on a black base. This is the one thing I'd change on ON3P's bases (from clear/green).

Well from what I can tell, veneer definitely adds dampness, but the comparison only comes from two different flex #4 skis:
- A 182 MAP (Enduro), Carbon, Nylon top, GPO
- A 182, Enduro, Carbon, Veneer Quoxote.
I don't want to draw too many conclusions, but for me, I'd never leave veneer out of the equation in a custom build. It doesn't seem to have a down side.

I have the 184 version, 4 flex, enduro core with carbon, and maple veneers. I believe it comes in around 8.2 lb for the pair, but I can confirm tonight.
A little aspen in the core isn't noticeable (at least not to me), and IMO, the weight/design of these skis strikes the right balance for touring and crud management.

I've not done Enduro without carbon, so I can't really comment other than to say that while I never found carbon to be nervous/chattery on the GPOs, the veneer topped Qs are damper, while still having "pop".
I suspect this has to do with the fact that I don't ski at mach-looney speeds and weigh 165.
I can see an RX in that construction (#4, Enduro, carbon, veneer) possibly evicting my Q's, but I'm going to give myself a real season on them first. Last year was a bust for me. The asym. takes away a bit of versatility away for the way I ski.
