Anybody got a frozen salmon hookup?
A few commercial fishermen on this forum, I think...
Now that much of the west coast is closed to commercial salmon fishing, and my usual hookup has gone dry, I need a new supplier. Anybody able to hook me up with flash-frozen red gold at a reasonable price? My local store only has shitty Atlantic and other farmed crap.
I'm near Bend, OR; help me keep my freezer full!

Anybody got a frozen salmon hookup?
Go rent a guide and boat off the west coast in 3 weeks, catch your possession limit, return home, clean and freeze.
Not counting the ferry cost to the Island cause we are visiting family anyways, it's about $800CND per day (2 adults, the 8yr old nephew, with guide and boat, fuel included, about 3 days to ensure the 2-day possession limit). Best fish ever

I fished commercial salmon in CA, OR, and AK in the late 80's; I now prefer to pay someone else to risk their fingers and limbs to give me cheap fish.

Anybody got a frozen salmon hookup?
^^^ Zactly. Efficiency of markets; let a pro do the work, charge me a fair price, we both win.
I am not interested in the fishing experience; been there, done that, more than most humans ever will. I just want a fair price on good fish.

I mean it's worth the cost to go up there and go Salmon fishing for the experience, don't get me wrong. I've done it. But for food for the table? Nope.

I can't wait until DD goes upscale. It's gonna happen. He's not dumb, he's making some money. He's gonna meet a girl. I can't wait for the "Tiffany vs. Cartier?" DD thread that's in our future.

My Newport hookup (my old captain from 1988) charged me dock prices, flash-frozen, shipped. Yeah, I'm spoiled. So no, Costco markup is out.

Maybe Lumpy still reads the forum? Not sure. But he had a salmon boat in AK for many years and I'm sure he still knows people. Float a PM out to him and see if anything happens.

I hear it's usually possible to buy sockeye for 8 $ a fish, 9 bucks gutted from an FN down the line eh but skeena is closed this year so maybe there is another band to deal with, so this might be the year to eat halibut instead but any way you cut it part of our FN brothers food fishery is about selling some fish to whitey
