Everything from spring 1970 was great. I used to have tapes from a couple of shows and I nearly played them out.
I remember thinking back when I used to see Jack and Jorma in small bars all over the place in the late 80's that they were on some sort of other plain, another level of existence when they played together. Jorma would go deep and Jacks head would start boppin', they both had their eyes closed and the music was otherworldly. I haven't seen them in a long time now, wonder if it's still that way.

Subscribed.
JA was one of the first bands I ever saw, and I saw them a number of times. I was seriously in love with Grace Slick for a while there.
Here's one where the overall performance isn't outstanding, EXCEPT for a monumental solo by Casady starting around 1:55. Stunning. That, and the dancing hippie chicks give me nostalgia:
Grace looks a little high.

Weird small world annotations....Bob Slick, Gracie's dad, was my attorney for a patent I was trying to get.
I used to have lunch with, then buy L from Chik Casady, Jack's brother, at Bruno's on Mission.

Saw Hot Tuna last December at an intimate venue in DC (where they both grew up), they were way into it, they still have the skills. Great show. Jorma talked about sneaking out of the house at 16 to meet Jack to play paying gigs at clubs they had to lie about their ages even to go into, cool stuff.

I took my son to see them 2 years ago at Jazz Alley here in Seatown. Jorma's picking is mesmerizing.

Bit of a thread drift, but if anybody is in Hood River Oregon, there is a art gallery run by an old hippy chick. She has an awesome collection of rock posters from the sixties of concerts around San Francisco. She said they would hand out posters for the next show to them as they left a show. They were supposed to put them up around town, but she kept them all and stapled them to her bedroom wall. The Who, Jimi Hendrix, JA, Hot Tuna, Cream, all really cool and in great shape. They are all nicely framed, but you can still see the staple holes which adds character.
I agree it is a constitutional right for Americans to be assholes...its just too bad that so many take the opportunity...iscariot

Encore at the Fillmore late '70 with Grace 8 months pregnant with China.
Earlier that same year I spent a major part of a summer night disabled by a hit of orange sunshine lying on my buddy's bed with the side of Surrealistic Pillow that had White Rabbit on it playing over and over through the speakers right next to my head as the record changer never failed. You kids don't know about record changers. Or good acid.

That and Fleetwood Mac were two excellent reasons for the birth of punk.

It was November of 1968 and I was a Senior at Stuyvesant High School in NYC (it was on E. 15th St. at the time) and I had NO idea that this was going on 30 blocks away from me. This performance is captured on the "Fly Jefferson Airplane" DVD - a must for any fan of the Airplane, or the period in general:
I finally got to see them at the Fillmore East a year later.

Any Seattlites go to the show at The Royal Room last night? My old friend Jen belted out White Rabbit.
I can't seem to link to the bad FB video saved on my phone.
