Yeah, I really like my Ions, more than my Verticals, and G3 has some good skins out there. Seems like all bindings have had their problems, all skin makers have put out some bad glue batches, most all ski makers have had issues, etc. etc. But back to my original point, G3 doesn't suck because they're defending their patent.

Those Targa tele bindings sucked donkey...but they were better than Superloops.

Doesn't Atomic have a very similar touring binding in the wings?
That would still keep competition in the US, since the Dynafit Beast series is being discontinued

The Atomic binding I think you're referring to bears no resemblance to either the Kingpin or Ion . . .

There's no such thing as a worldwide patent. Each country has their own procedure.

There is something called the PCT (Patent Cooperation Treaty) that's supposed to allow central filing and somewhat harmonize the process between countries, but it doesn't work very well and each country is free to completely ignore the PCT office's recommendations. Most places just get a US patent, big companies with legal staff will often add Canada, Germany, and the UK.

This is why Canadian bicycle companies like Devinci used the Horst link for world bikes and switched to a regular four-bar for American bikes: the Horst Link patent was only in the USA. (It's since expired.)

So does this mean there's going to be a run on Kingpins?

I'm guessing that Marker has too much invested in this to not settle and license the brakes for next season, while likely working on an alternate solution.

But then sell right before they make the licensing deal.

    Obviously.

Pretty happy I grabbed an extra set of kingpins at the end of last season. Best tech binding on the market hands down. Hope it gets resolved by the time I need a new set.

    I think you mispelled Fritischi.

Assuming THE touring binding is one with an alpine like heel.

Just tested the link, some reason it doesn't go to the kingpin's, select all manufacturer and select marker and they will be there.

FYI I wouldn't trust an outdoors company where this is their address:
