mtb can be a lot of time above the saddle in a balanced ready posture -- on the down, anyway
road can be a lot of time directly on the saddle

    Few things:

Don't wear anything under a chamois

Shaving your taint/contact areas can make chafing/sores worse.

Spend money on decent shorts. I wear bibs, for mtb rides I'll usually put some baggy shorts on over top.

If you're not comfortable, go to a shop and try some different saddles, many places have demos. You need to get a few good rides in on them, not just around the block or whatever.

Use some sort of a cream if it helps. I had a tub of the assos stuff which was fine.

Or, if you don't have problems, keep doing what you're doing.

All my tender parts have hardened up, but for the early season (and preventing Wolf Jaws when touring) nothing works like pure Shea butter.

Maybe it's the dry climate around here.
No, it's these facts which explain why you don't need it:

    1) You almost never ride.

    2) When you do ride, it's for 45 minutes.

And here people try to mock me for saying TGR has become MTBR.

Dab some of my wife's coconut oil to self, promising not to double-dip. If wearing tanktop, apply excess to chest for maximum trail glow.
